Josh Boyce Stamps his class as Miners prove too strong for Hunters------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Newcastle,NSW- Josh Boyce had an outstanding first half in which he caught 6 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown. His efforts were largely responsible for the Wollongong Miners getting over the top of the Newcastle Hunters 20-10. "The first half just came off for me. They left me alone and I punished them. It was a different story in the second half, lots of double teams but that's Ok as it opened up chances for my team mates" Boyce said.

Newcastle desperate for their first win of the season started strongly. William Hemshaw had moved up in what is a revolving door at Quarterback and on the second drive of the game he was able to find Dexter McCluster on a deep cross to score. The loyal fans erupted but the promise shown was short lived. Wollongong thanks mainly due to the efforts of Boyce responded with a 15 play drive that was capped off by Mitch Irhazi with a 3 yard touchdown run. The Miners would take the lead with a field goal after Hemshaw again panicked under pressure and threw a terrible pass straight to Linebacker Brad Dyer who was making his mark with his ability to cover the ground.

Boyce extended the Miners lead just before the half this time as he broke open a route to the corner and the Safety was caught out looking inside. Rookie Jordan Jerome threw a wonderful pass that was well held by the receiver.

The second half was a much tougher arm wrestle with Newcastle looking to run the ball to reduce the chances of turnovers. But Wollongong matched them up front and only conceded points when Jerome made a Rookie mistake and threw a pick to Xavier Rhodes. The Miners came up with a solid 12 play drive following which saw Stirling Williams kick another 3 pointer and Hemshaw ended the game as a contest with his third pick.
