MINE IT/Data Specialist
The Myanmar/Burma Indigenous Network for Education (MINE), is currently made up of 24 education organizations representing 12 Indigenous groups living in remote, often conflict affected areas across Myanmar. MINE has two main roles:
1. To support the provision of locally informed and owned quality education services in Indigenous communities.
2. To advocate for improved access to and quality of relevant basic education for Indigenous children.
MINE’s current project activities include pre-‐service, in service and mobile teacher training, parent education/awareness, and school management capacity building and reach 1621 schools, 5549 teachers, 135237 students and approximately 48000 parents. MINE will soon start a new initiative to bring over 82000 out-‐of-‐school children into school. Position Description: The IT/Data Specialist will lead the development and maintenance of secure systems to support project data requirements, including a database of over 150,000 individual school students. The role will also have a management and training aspect to it with the data specialist leading a large database team and being responsible for their building their capacity. The role will also include supporting knowledge management and general IT support for the project. The Data/IT Specialist will report to the Head of Education Assistance. Responsibilities: Data Management
• Develop a data management system to track project school/teacher/student data . • Oversee migration of data from existing system to new system. • Train key data-‐based staff in the use, maintenance and development of the new
database • Provide ongoing support and adapt data management to project needs as necessary
Organisational Development • Improve the continuity of institutional memory by developing strong
information/knowledge management systems • Provide general IT support to the organization. • Maintain efficient and responsive computing systems. • Support the design, construction, and maintenance of a MINE website
Other responsibilities as required. Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, data management or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
• 3-‐5 years’ experience working with non-‐governmental and community-‐based organizations • Exceptional IT knowledge and informational management skills • Experience providing training/capacity building for staff. • Proven success directing and working flexibly, respectfully, and empathetically with people of various backgrounds.
• Ability to plan, prioritize, and work on various assignments simultaneously • Ability to work independently and collaboratively • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts to staff with less IT experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills fluency in English and Myanmar required. Additional Requirements: Flexibile as to hours and location of work. Frequent travel will be required. Salary and Benefits: Local salary commensurate to experience and qualifications.
