E arly in my career anxious clients who started each session urgently telling me how hard the past week had been for them left me feeling flooded and unable to settle into helping them. Depressed clients who came in unable to communicate, due to slowed cognitive processing

abilities and sluggish nervous systems, challenged me even further as I tried to engage them in meaningful dialogue. My clients were deeply lost in their own story and experience, which made it difficult to bring in new viewpoints and knowledge that would help.

As a therapist, who is also a daily meditator and a musician well versed in creative meditative play states, I started to use mindful play and meditative techniques for treating anxiety and depression. I began to engage my clients in states of curiosity, flexibility, and open exploration. Anxious clients learned to let go and relax. Those with depression would brighten and physically wake up during session.

Since then I have developed more ways to help clients cultivate positive mindstates while in session with me and in their own daily lives. Clients learn how to focus attention on positive aspects of living versus over-focusing on fear and sadness. The therapeutic relationship with my clients has grown deeply which, as research tells us, helps a client engage in their own mental health ultimately leading them toward more meaningful and fulfilling lives. I’ve learned what current research says about how the brain functions during play and how similar this state is to meditation.

Attend this seminar, and I will show you how to:

• Engage anxious clients in transformative practices to increase self-regulation skills

• Open children, adolescents and adults to non-judgmental cognitive states

• Transform cognitive distortions in depressed clients

• Develop advanced play therapy skills

Mindful play techniques are simple to learn and implement with clients. Come and explore the wonders of mindful play and learn approaches that will leave you feeling optimistic about treating even your most challenging cases. I’m confident this seminar will leave you feeling refreshed and encouraged!
