DESCRIPTION
Über 200 Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer haben an der Nationalen Tagung des Schweizer Netzwerkes „Migrant-Friendly Hospitals (MFH) am 19. September 2013 in Bern teilgenommen, welche mit Unterstützung des Bundesamtes für Gesundheit organisiert wurde. Die MFH-Spitäler (u.a. die Universitätsspitäler Genf, Lausanne und Basel, UKBB) sowie internationale Referenten haben ihre konkreten Erfahrungen im Umgang mit der zunehmenden kulturellen und sprachlichen Diversität im Gesundheitsbereich vorgestellt. Sample at an out-patient clinic – February 2011
• In the policlinic of the Women’s Hospital 178 out of
302 patients had an immigration background (58%)
and 106 were Swiss nationals (35%).
• Only 5 out of 21 employees (medical staff/ midwives)
were Swiss nationals.

Call to Action
� Ensure that health professionals know when and why to
work with professional interpreters, in order to make
appropriate decisions concerning communication with
allophone patients.
� Ensure that both health professionals and interpreters
are trained in how best to collaborate to ensure quality
and safety in health care for allophone patients.
� Develop a national-level solution for financing health care
interpreting.
