Mifepristone favoured in abortion Pregnancy termination with mifepristone is a low cost treatment permitting outpatient management. 'The method is highly acceptable to the patients and the reported complications compare favourably with the complications of vacuum aspiration. ' 25 women who underwent elective termination with mifepristone 600mg and 23 patients who underwent vacuum aspiration were compared. Pain was reported to be significantly greater and of longer duration with mifepristone and more bleeding was reported in this group compared with aspiration recipients. However, mifepristone recipients spent significantly less time in bed and off work than vacuum aspiration patients. Pelvic inflammatory disease developed in 3 patients after vacuum aspiration and abortion was incomplete in 6 mifepristone recipients.
