Solution: The building investigates connection of space within a tight interaction of program that supports the concept of disbursement; the structure, the service wall, and the connection of design elements. The exterior explores the concept of dis-bursement by providing a city walk of visual display panels that outputs information about Birmingham’s des-tinations, places of interest, and an-nual culture tradition. The building also provides a connection with the park by providing an iconic struc-ture system that serves Rotary Park. The centerpiece of the design is the service wall that activates each pro-grammatic element of design. The wall provides three punctures that display programmatic elements for hostel, brew house, and the bakery.

The Green House started with last semester’s ob-servations on the defini-tion of a green house and deciding where, on the Morrisette property would be the best loca-tion for one. One of the most important aspects of the green house is that it is a Passive Solar Green House; meaning that it does not require electricity from a mu-nicipal source. Using readily available and free energy from the sun and the wind along with site location/orientation, this green house will do several things on its own: Stay warm through the winter, ventilate during the summer and store rainwater for irrigation.

The 12ft high wall of blue, 55gal, steel barrels that make up the back wall. Winter will be the hard-est time to regulate the temperature inside the green house. The thermal mass wall will collect and store solar energy from the sun. At night when the outside temperature cools down, the wall will release the energy back into the greenhouse keeping it warm, and the plants alive, through the
