MICCI BRIEFING ON “SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AND PUBLIC CLEANSING IN MALAYSIA" 16 JULY 2012 Malaysian economy has been blooming since mid 70s and apart from all the benefits it has brought for the people, it also caused lots of problems in Solid Waste Management (SWM). Increasing rate of waste generation could be the most important effect of this matter and it is still increasing by 3% annually. The disappointing fact is that the solid waste is going to be a very big problem for the people and indeed for the environment due to poor awareness among us. With that, MICCI has taken an initiative to organise a half- day briefing session on “Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing In Malaysia” The briefing is divided into three sessions. First presentation entitled Solid Waste Management in Malaysia" will be presented by Dato' Dato' Nazri bin Yahya, Director General Department of National Solid Waste Management from Ministry of Housing and Local Government. The second presentation on the "Effective Approaches and Challenges in Implementation of Solid waste Management and Public Cleansing” will be presented by a speaker from Alam Flora (M) Sdn Bhd. At the Question & Answer session participants will have the opportunity to raise problems that arise in industries and to communicate effectively within professional networks At this briefing, participants will be given an update on the Act, policy review, issues and strategies taken by Government. Also this briefing will provide an opportunity to learn and share the experiences of the company which has been responsible to carry out the solid waste management in Malaysia. In addition, it will also provides an intellectual platform for both the public and private sectors to exchange ideas and issues and draw on the past experiences on how waste can be managed efficiently. Members are therefore strongly encouraged to attend the briefing.
