sagebrush under new ownership A deal with Langley-based newmark Group, first started in October of 2014, has finally been closed. Sagebrush Golf & Sporting Club did not open for the 2015 season while its owners attempted to sell it, and the new owners will reopen in 2016. The new owners say they have plans to build a 32,000-square-foot clubhouse, and hopes to develop resort-style homes on the property, overlooking nicola Lake. They are also expected to attempt to in- crease public play at the course, which had attempted unsuccessfully to market itself as a high-end private course. new substation all powered up This past weekend, BC Hydro brought online the completed $65 million upgrade to Merritt’s transmission net- work — $5 million under budget. The project consists of a new substation, up- grades to the existing substation and a new transmission line. Construction began in 2013. BC Hydro built a new 35-kilometre, 138-kilo- volt transmission line to replace an exist- ing 69-kilovolt line. The new line runs between the existing Highland substa- tion and a new Merritt Substation Spring Bank Avenue, at the site of the existing, lower-capacity substation. “reliable power is essential to the growth of our community,” said Jackie Tegart, MLA for Fraser nicola. “not only will this project provide the power we need for new business and industry, but construction also contributed to our local economy. More than 100 jobs were created during construction and Merritt-based companies worked on key elements like clearing for the new line, building new ac- cess roads and constructing foundations for transmission structures.” Police report Between november 6th & 9th, Merritt rCMP responded to 50 calls for service. A break-in at the storage unit on Lind- ley Creek road was reported Saturday morning, with a power drill being stolen from one of the stored vehicles. nothing else was known to be missing at the time. Also on nov. 7, a report of a theft from a vehicle on Coldwater Ave. was re- ported: a stereo & equipment was stolen from a vehicle parked outside the home. At 0148 hrs on november 9, rCMP re- sponded to a call of a suspicious vehicle parked in the Irvine/Forksdale area. The plates were inactive and believed to be from Kamloops. Tools commonly used for break & enters were found in the vehicle and seized, and the vehicle was towed. The complainant gave a description of a male and female seen leaving the vehicle and crossing through his yard prior to po- lice arrival.
