XiLab®

XiLab® is the research workshop founded by Menotti Specchia in 2005 to innovate wooden

surfaces. The idea however goes much further back in time to the vocation for research

that has made this company stand out right from the start of its history in 1922 and its

great experience in bespoke projects.

Through XiLab®, Menotti Specchia renews its research objectives with highly innovative

projects that enhance both the craftsmanship talent of its skilled workers and its ability

to help clients at the design stage.

In addition to internal resources, a design team and craftsmen, XiLab® works with

designers and architects who share the company’s passion for wood, the central element

of the workshop and all its projects.

For designers, XiLab® is a chance to experiment new ideas and see them followed through,

while for XiLab the design project is an opportunity to rework wood with new aesthetic and

functional values. XiLab® projects are the result of close collaboration between designers

and craftsmen, with a process of continual idea-testing, checked against production

possibilities and vice versa, which is what happens when an idea beats a trail for new

production techniques.
