Gymnastics Ireland has a licensing agreement in place to use the British Gymnastics (BG) National Development Plan. Based on the success British Gymnastics has gained in recent years on the international stage we believe this to be the best route for the development of our gymnasts through a home national competitive system. We feel that the implementation of this programme will give gymnasts in Ireland an excellent structured pathway to follow to achieve success through continuous development from minor, through to junior &

senior levels.

Each level progressively develops techniques and themes that will underpin high level performance as is critical to the development of sound foundations for progressive gymnastic performance. The gymnast should develop routines by learning elements following these

progressive themes. A focus on development of good technique is key throughout the Performance Pathway. Note that all judging considerations have been replaced with performance development considerations, therefore all judging is as per the FIG Code of Points

2017-2020 Cycle 13.

Pommel Horse

Pommel Horse – Please note these are signposts of some available deductions Element C of P Consideration All – Performance Considerations

Deviation from performance considerations stated are technical deductions: 0.1, 0.3, 0.5

All Touching apparatus – 0.1 Hitting apparatus – 0.5

Circle elements Skewing deductions, taken for each circle: >15°- 30° = 0.1, >30°- 45° = 0.3, >45° = 0.5

Circle elements Shoulders moving from start direction on mushroom: >15°- 30° = 0.1, >30°- 45° = 0.3, >45° = 0.5

Single leg elements Big emphasis of 2017-20 cycle - too often a lack of deduction means that those performed excellently are not rewarded. Remember that the FIG exercise expectation is: ‘during scissors and single leg swings, the gymnast must demonstrate a significant elevation of his hips and a large separation of the legs’. Lack of amplitude commonly seen but often not deducted, with a small or medium deduction possible. Reward the better by deducting those poorly performed 0.1, 0.3 Touching or hitting the apparatus 0.1, 0.5

LEVEL 1 – O8/U9 LOW FLOOR MUSHROOM WITH ONE HANDLE

Element Description (values indicated in italics) Performance Considerations

1

Low floor mushroom with one handle From front support, step to the side or jump into 7 x double leg circles across the handle The first circle is considered an entry circle. The middle 5 circles will be judged 2.00 each. The seventh circle is considered an exit circle. If a gymnast has a fall during the middle 5 circles the entry circle and exit circle will not be counted towards the middle 5 circles which are marked. Each gymnast should complete 7 double leg circles. Each gymnast may have up to 2 attempts to complete the circles but will be deducted for the falls. Counting will stop when the gymnast reaches 7 circles

The circles should be fluent and well extended from the shoulders. Control should be demonstrated throughout the routine. Shoulder displacement should be symmetrical through side support positions. Shoulders should remain in the same direction throughout the routine.

TOTAL SCORE – 10.00 Deductions as FIG

Non-recognised elements will lose the value of the element plus FIG deduction if applicable

Routine 1 - Low Horse no handles. Flairs can be performed across either handle position.

7 flairs on low horse (hands placed either side of where the handle would be) The first flair is considered an entry flair. The middle 5 flairs will be judged 2.00 each. The seventh flair is considered an exit flair. If a gymnast has a fall during the middle 5 flairs the entry flair and exit flair will not be counted towards the middle 5 flairs which are marked.
