Since its founding 15 years ago, Men for the Cure has raised more than $1.5 million for breast cancer research and care at the University of Colorado Hospital. Television newscaster Ed Greene and philanthropist Sharon Magness Blake started the organization in memory of their friend Diane O’Connor Thompson, who died from complications from breast cancer in late 1999. In 2007, the University of Colorado Hospital renamed its breast cancer treatment center after her to honor the work of Men for the Cure.

The organization came under the umbrella of the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation in 2010.

Money raised through Men for the Cure events, which include an annual gala, dinner programs, and raffles, also provides funding for early cancer detection programs and has paid for medical equipment that includes a stereotactic biopsy table, a digital specimen radiography system, and a mobile mammography unit that has been nicknamed “The Pink Life Saver.”
