Fashion in the EastIn Melbourne’s east the focus turns to fashion; streets lined with boutiques and market stalls laden with craft goods and designer fashions. In the leafy eastern villages of Kew, Camberwell, Hawthorn and Canterbury, you will find a hidden oasis of shopping delights; from the bustling stalls at the Hawthorn Craft Market, to the full clothing racks at the famed Camberwell Sunday Market.

Northern DelightsIn Melbourne’s inner northern villages you will discover this city ’s obsession with food from across the four corners of the globe.

Head to Sydney Road in Brunswick for a Mediterranean taste sensation, with a host of authentic Turkish, Afghani, Lebanese and Greek restaurants, cafés and bakeries. Dine on traditional barbecued meats and sugary sweet homemade desserts – you will not go home hungry.

The food gets hip and all kinds of cool in Fitzroy’s Smith and Brunswick Streets. Dine at some of the best eateries in town - from gourmet burgers and delicious Thai, to late night pizzas - the best chefs are serving it up in Fitzroy and this bustling area is fast becoming one of Melbourne’s most celebrated dining hubs. With so many quality cuisines calling the area home, it is easy to find something to satisfy any palette. After dinner it is time to discover the bars and pubs that line these famous streets. There are lots to choose from – cocktail lounges, wine bars, traditional pubs and many in-between, so prepare for a long night of exploring.

Westside StoryIt is all about enjoying the great outdoors as you venture out of the city to the west. Take a ferry to the historic village of Williamstown – with some of the best views across the bay, and not to mention a host of entertainment and dining options. Picnic at Williamstown Commonwealth Reserve, directly across from the pier; ride the 23km Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail which takes you past botanic gardens, sandy beaches and wetlands; or uncover Williamstown’s rich maritime past on a tour of the refurbished WWII warship HMAS Castlemaine, docked at Gem Pier. There is a lot to discover and love in this stunning coastal region.

Further inland you will discover the famous Werribee Tourism Precinct, home to the Werribee Open Range Zoo, the historic Werribee Park Mansion and the stunning K Road Cliffs. From ghost tours and overnight safaris, to wine tastings and aerochuting, there is something to suit everyone. Experience the opulent luxury of a time gone by at Werribee Mansion; marvel at the beauty of the Victorian State Rose Garden, or be pampered at the Mansion Hotel and Spa. If you prefer to walk on the wild side then be sure to join a safari at the Werribee Open Range Zoo. Just up the road is the Point Cook Coastal Park and Cheetham Wetlands, which rank among the top places in the world for migratory wading birds.

My MelbourneAs the Chief Concierge for The Westin Melbourne, Steve Ciric is an expert on this vibrant city. He shares his recommendations for your stay:

Favourite WalkIt would have to be through The Royal Botanic Gardens. It is easy to forget you are in a bustling world-class city when you lose yourself amongst these secluded gardens. You can explore the many crisscrossing pathways that take you through the impressive flower and fauna displays. You can take in the wildlife, interesting sculptures, or just lay back on the landscaped lawns and soak up a tranquil lake setting.

Place for a great coffeeMelbourne is renowned for its coffee and our hotel is lucky to be set amongst the city’s iconic laneways, offering a plethora of options. Cup of Truth is located in the subway off Degraves Street – this one is a popular local’s haunt. Another must among many others is Sensory Lab at the David Jones Food Court off Little Collins Street, offering a variety of one-off blends. Also, Brother Baba Budan on Little Bourke Street is known for its charming decor and great coffee.

Favourite viewYou cannot go past Eureka 88 for uninterrupted and amazing views of Melbourne. The lifts propel you to Level 88 in under 40 seconds to the highest viewing point in the Southern Hemisphere. For truly unique views in all directions, they also offer 'The Edge', which is a glass cube that slides out from the building with you inside.

Place for a meal at the end of a busy day The Westin’s signature restaurant Allegro is modern hotel dining at its best and has beautiful views onto Collins Street treetops and the City Square below.

Place for a business dinnerEzard, located on Flinders Lane, would have to be my choice. It is a classic contemporary dining option with an enticing selection, located in a sleek basement-style setting. It is a trusted favourite amongst many of our guests too.

Place for a meetingObviously I work at The Westin so I am biased but we genuinely have a unique range of flexible meeting rooms on offer to cater from 2 to 160 guests. These spaces offer a polished and professional setting, an abundance of natural light and magnificent views of Collins Street and Swanston Street. Surrounded by wine racks showcasing the hotel’s collection, the Wine Room is a popular option as it offers a unique setting and sophisticated ambience.
