10,000 DAYS

The front cover of the Digipack is interested because it introduces you to a gloomy theme that is likely to be with the genre, Heavy Metal. The colour of the Digipak also emphasises this idea too. The use of 3D lenses is also effective as it entices the audience on what they would be using it for. Then when you open up the Digipak there are pictures that are made to create an impact and illusion effect. In contrast to the outside of the Digipak, the colours inside are very vibrant and create a positive energy to the Digipak. On one side of the Digipak there is the Booklet and on the other side a CD holder. The dominant part of the Digipak is the CD in the middle which also has similar imagery (illusion effect)to the other pictures contained in the Digipak. However, the colours are in black and white and are of eyes. The effect of this makes it seem as if it is looking back at you which reflects the gothic theme.

In the booklet there are numerous pictures that appear as both double and single images. These can be viewed in 3D by looking into the lenses which adds an interesting aspect to the Digipak and makes it more interesting for the audience. There is also the names of the directors and people who carried out particular tasks such as Photography and CGI contained in the booklet which ensures that people know who was involved within the digipak. The view of the image through the lense is an effective idea and portrays the group to have a creative side to them and this means that they will have more brand recognition. It also reflects their sense of style and what their music maybe about.

KAISER CHIEFS

Kaiser Chiefs is a English Indie Rock band who have an interesting and unique Digipak in the style of a box, in order to market their music. The box has been designed to look old and vintage with basic bold writing on the front of the band and album name to create a feeling for their band. The text is printed over a yellow box which allows you to draw your attention to the writing because it has more importance than some of the pictures that people go towards .In the box, it contains fake money, two cd cases, a instruction booklet and poster which is a lot of things for a single digipak. It has been designed to look like what would have been made in the 80s/90s. The idea of this is emphasised by the kids on the poster who would have been brought up in this time period, to get more of a feel for the time period. Overall, your first impression of the Digipak makes it seem as if the group are into music and the lifestyle before their time to create a unique and indie genre for their album look.

The colours on on the outside of the CD reflect the personality of the artists as vibrant, happy and fun. It is also much more interesting to look at. The disk is designed to look like a roulette wheel which adds to the theme of gambling that has been established by the poster of a game board. The theme of gambling is portrayed inside the box which contrasts to the outside of the box. This idea could potentially be reflected in the music which explains why the style of Digipak was chosen.

‘CARRY ON THE GRUDGE’

‘Carry On The Grudge’ which was by an Indie rock artist who is called Jamie T, which was released in 2014. The design uses lots of black and dark/eerie images, with a repetitive theme of shadows. The front cover, is plain black with the album name placed on top which makes it very bold. This informs us of the artists and album to make it more clear for the audience. The image is of a painting of a breastfeeding woman which is unusual to link to the indie rock theme. The back of the cover, has the same font used on the front of the digipak which shows the repetitive theme throughout the digipak. The font of the digipak has a style that work with the darkness of the design and the use of the painting which looks old. The CD design is the same as the front cover, without the image. This may be a reflection of the music, which has been described as ‘emotional and reflective’ with that sense of the dark and unusual themes. There then is a image of a shadow in a dark staircase, which again, this is linked to the music in the album, some of which is dark and emotional. It also work with the black front cover, cd and back cover which then goes to the dark staircase image. Like the other image, it suggests the type of music of darkness. This image is slightly different, its quite grainy and abstract. We can imply from the other images that they are from an old house, and this one looks like it may be a window.
