An Old House by Lamia Bouziane
Old wooden cedar doors and beautiful tile work
Master craftsmanship
We are restoring this residence in the old city.
The old medina in Fes was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. Parts are being restored through partnership
programs between institutions and property owners.
We are contributing through community service.
Students help pull a cart full of work materials to the house through the narrow streets of the medina.
Students saw cedar beams for the structural support of the house during the restoration process. Cedar wood is chosen because the scent wards off insects for centuries.
Alexis helps put a foundation down to begin laying bricks.
Alexis is using a scale to make sure that the foundation is balanced.
Students hauled cement up the stairway to build a new wall in the ancient house. The man is smoothing a layer of cement onto the foundation.
Alexis is learning to lay bricks and build a wall.
Our co-workers observe the wall building process.
Lauren comes to help build the wall.
Thanks for learning about the medina restoration community service project. Bislama
