Flu EpidemicAs Flu cases skyrocket in South Australia, the medical team at Pro Health Care urge all their patients to have their Flu shots before this winter. It is particularly important for not only those who are unwell or over the age of 65, but for people who are also in frequent contact with the sick, young or elderly to be immunised as well.

If you are unsure whether you need a fl u vaccination, we recommend that you discuss with your GP whether or not it is required.

Immunisations will be available from the end of March. Please book at reception.

You may be eligible to receive a FREE fl u VaccineFree vaccines are available if you meet any of the following criteria:

• All people aged 65 years and over

• Those with chronic health conditions, eg heart disease, lung conditions, diabetes, kidney failure, neurological conditions, low immunity and cancer

• Pregnant women

• Indigenous people from 15-49 years

• Children in medical at risk MAR group.

Tips on how to stop the Flu from Spreading• Get vaccinated to prime your

immune system

• Wash your hands regularly with soap and water

• Wipe household surfaces so they are clean and dry

• Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze

• Avoid close contact with people who seem to be infected.

Headaches are very common with statistics showing that over 90% of the population experiences at least one episode per year. They are especially common among offi ce workers and people who have had prior injury to their neck ie. Whiplash.

Cervicogenic Headache is the term used to describe a headache that is attributed to dysfunction of the neck. It is common for the symptoms to be on the one side, commencing from the neck and extending to the back of the head then frontal towards the eye. Often the headache is brought on by sitting for long periods of time in a forward head position ie. Using the computer, reading a book or sleeping in an awkward position. With time, stiff ness in the upper neck joints and trigger points in the muscles can lead to ongoing chronic headaches and associated neck pain.

Thankfully Cervicogenic Headaches respond very well to “hands on” therapy by a physiotherapist such as joint mobilisation, manipulation, massage and acupuncture/dry needling. Further episodes can even be prevented by postural education, stretching and strengthening of the deep neck fl exor muscles of the neck through a series of progressive exercises. If you are experiencing headaches that fi t this pattern, then book in to see one of our physiotherapists or remedial therapists for an assessment and treatment.
