Lady Gaga in Paparazzi The first thing that illustrates post modernity is the length of the music video. Music videos tend to last up to 3 maybe 4 minutes, where as the music video to ‘Paparazzi’ lasts for about 7 minutes. In turn making this music video really a ‘short film’.

This is not Gaga’s first music that could be classed as a ‘short film’. The music video to the song ‘Telephone’ lasted for 9 minutes.

The titles at the start of the music video that state the names of those staring in the music video and the end titles (‘The End’) further portrays the closer the music video is to a short film, rather than to a music video.

Self refrentual

Throughout the music video Lady Gaga refers to her self in reality constantly. Ways include shots of her ‘personal life’ be photographed, newspaper articles and also shots of her walking out to a crowd of paparazzi. Not only this the song title itself is a reference to her a life as Gaga is constantly being ‘papped’ for her different lifestyle.

This is to highlight her own self importance and wants to create self awareness of her to global audiences, to further exploit her image even when she is not in reality.

Andrew Goodwin theory• Feminists often criticize music videos for having a voyeuristic outlook on

women's bodies.

• However lady Gaga promotes this often in all her music videos, wearing next to nothing/tight clothing.

• Her backing dancers also are dressed similarly, however this promotes a female unit that hold power.

Feminism• Furthermore, clips of men being killed via ‘poison’ because of them

being disrespectful towards themselves and other women in Gaga’s music video also hints that she wants women to be seen as powerful and not just as objects in her music videos.
