The Media & Communication department is based in the Ellen Terry building and has a well-established reputation for excellence; it offers dynamic, innovative courses, and produces high-quality scholarship and creative practice. The practical work includes the use of digital as well as traditional media, and our study of theory and criticism engages with the most important contemporary ideas and debates. We are proud of our distinctive contribution to the creative communities of this city, the region and the international scene.

We look for students who can demonstrate they have a thirst for knowledge, the ambition to succeed and the drive and determination to make a difference in the media industries of the future.

All of our courses offer students the opportunity to undertake professional experience in the summer term of their second year. BA(Hons) Advertising and Media

Advertising affects us more and more it is a key part of the creative industries . How advertisers use the media to reach customers and what they say to them is fundamentally what this course explores. The increase in satellite and cable channels, mobile phones and the Internet means you are exposed to more advertising messages than ever. More companies want to reach you and each has something different to say about their product in ways that you will find interesting. But new media technologies mean that you also have more ways to avoid these messages and so the advertisers have to be more creative in both what they say and how they say it.
