Media Studies Coursework – Risk Assessment
Hazards Level of Risk (High/Med/Low)
Controls to manage risk
Throughout the video, the actress will have
bare feet. She will also be in some positions
that can be considered slightly hazardous.
Some of the locations requires us to capture footage outside. This becomes a
hazard as the weather conditions may
make the ground slippery. The actress may
be bare foot as well so this means that the actress will be more likely to slip over.
At the start of the video, the actress will be ‘drawing’ with a pencil a person with a
pencil.
To capture some of the footage needed,
the camera operator will need to stand
on something to gain the height needed to shoot such an angle.
In some scenes, we will be shooting in a
bedroom location. Due to the mise-en-scene being very accurate due to us using
a teenage bedroom, there may be
background props such as clothes laying on the floor. The crew may trip over these
objects.

Due to the actress having bare feet during the filming process, she will be prone to
stepping on something sharp during the
filming. Before we start filming, we will have to
make sure that there is nothing hazardous on the floor or around the actress’ surroundings. If
there is, we will put it out of the way of the actress to allow her to act in safe conditions. The actress will also be instructed where she
will be singing and in what positions. This reduces the factor a lot as the crew will be checking if the position and surrounding is
safe.
We will see if the weather conditions are ok
to film in before travelling to our location. If needed, we will change the location to
somewhere similar. This will only be done if
the weather conditions are too hazardous.
The actress will wear shoes to the location and will only remove them for filming to
reduce the risk of slipping over if it is wet.
The actress will need to be cautious of the
pencils location as it has a sharp end to it
that can cause injuries. If an accident does occur,
seek medical help
The additional crew member will help with stabilising the camera operating. The crew
will also make sure the object the camera
operator is standing on is stable for shooting the scene. To help with this, we will be using
a tripod which give additional height to the
shot if we are unable to create a stable base
for the camera operator to stand on.
The crew must be cautious on where they
will walk. This includes the actress as well.
The props may be moved if such thing is
needed.

Safe system of work - Control measures required to avoid or minimise risk:
1. Before filming:
We will check if the locations are suitable to use and will consider the props will be using and make sure they are safe to use. We will also check the costumes, if they are appropriate for the genre we are aiming to appeal for and the mise-en-scene we have created. We will go over the risk assessment to make it clear to the crew members what we all need to look out for as a further step to assuring that everyone will be safe.
2. During filming:
While filming, we will continuously go over the risk assessment to make sure we are prepared for such hazards and know how to handle them. We will take into account other risks we may have forgotten
to include in the process of creating the risk assessment. We will also be respectful for any who are in
the location and avoid disturbing them as they may not enjoy being in our footage.
3. After filming:
We will leave the location in the same condition as to when we arrived to it. This will reduce the risk for anyone else who visits the location as one of the locations is a public space. We will also check to
see if we have disturbed anyone while we have been filming.
