DESCRIPTION

In todays lesson we got taught the codes and conventions of music magazines. For the homework we were asked to produce a powerpoint and save it onto slideshare and post it onto our blog.

Positioning statement -> the magazines line of promotionfor itself/ethos -> above or below the title.

Top left aligned or if the title is big or in bigger font, may take up the whole top section of the magazine.

Big font to make it unique to the rest of the text.

Image partially covers the title of the magazine(only if the magazine is well known)

Website under or above the barcode

Usually at the bottom right and can be horizontal or vertical

Price is under or next to the barcode in small print. The more expensive the magazine is, the smaller it will be stated.

Issue number is also next to/close to the barcode.

Used to suggest it is something special to this magazine e.g. ‘New’ ‘Plus’ and ‘Exclusive’.

Colour scheme• 3-4 colours max

• Simple and plain schemes

• Generally primary colours

• Colours don’t clash

There magazines, both have the colour scheme as black white and red. The colours each stand out and don’t clash.

Here, the colour scheme is black white and gray. This magazine would stand out if put next to coloured magazines.

Here, there colour scheme is black white gray and red. The background being gray makes the red white and black text stand out.

Cover lines; Ambiguous on purpose to draw the reader in. Short and ‘snappy’ so the target audience/reader doesn’t lose interest. Cover lines are always written in capitals.; All cover lives use the same bold simple text.

Frame/fit around the main image. Main cover line anchors the main image. The main cover line has larger font than the other cover lines.

Sub line- Adds information to the cover line, not always making the cover line clear, they do this on purpose to make the target audience read the cover line and want to buy the magazine to read and understand the cover line and the story.

The greater the price the smaller it is stated.

Fonts mainly used are;

• Serif font (with hooks and flicks)

• Sans serif fonts (plain font)

• Times new roman

• Ariel
