Bi-Annual Newsletter
Its indeed my pleasure to bring out yet another issue of
“Mech TiMes”. The present volume comprised of activities
conducted in the Even semester 2017-18.
This semester was more colourful and vibrant because of the
department fest Mechtrix-2K18. Also the State level project
exhibition Yantix-18 showcased the student projects.
I also Congratulate Prof. Srinivasa K on his Successful
completion and awarding of PhD. Finally, I Thank all my
editorial board members, Staffs and students who supported in
bringing out this news letter.

YANRIX-18
Department has organised a State level Technical Project Exhibition “YANTRIX-18” ON 23 May 2018.
Dr. Shirish Kala, Manager, CLARK Fixture Technology India Pvt. Ltd, Mysuru inaugurated the event.
Dr. Mallikarjun C, Associate Professor, VTU-PG Centre, Mysuru was the Chief Guest of the function.
Dr. Shirish Kala and Dr. Mallikarjun were also the adjudicators of the event. The event had three catego-
ries namely; Working Models, Study Projects and Hobby Projects. They appreciated the enthusiasm and
creative abilities of the students which reflected in excellent working models and also study projects.
The project Titled “Fabrication of Low Cost 3D printer”, “To Study Microstructure Residual Stress &
Mechanical Properties of Aluminium Alloy by Short Peening” and “Robo Arm” are awarded as best
project of the Exhibition.

Technical Talks Conducted
“Educating the students on career Development ”
Department has organised a technical talk on “Educating the students
on career Development” on 23rd April 2018.
Deputy General Manager Sri K L Prakash and Dr. Ramesh, centre Head,
from GTTC Mysore educated the students who are at the verge of com-
pleting their B E., course about the job opportunities. He explained the
various specialized training courses conducting particularly on TOOL and
DIE making for Press tools, Injection moulds and Die casting Dies. They
also told about the softwares available at GTTC for Modelling and Analysis
purpose and advised the Final year students to join these specialized cours-
es to acquire the knowledge and skills which would be helpful to place
themselves at tooling related industries.
An awareness program on Non Destructive Techniques (NDT)
for the Pre-final year and Final year students of Mechanical
Engineering was organised on 28 February 2018. The program
was arranged, to provide a brief knowledge about various NDT
techniques and job opportunities in the same field for the
students.
Mr. Dharmesh, Senior welding inspector, Industrial Radio-
graphic Inspection Services (IRIS), briefed about the training
program and its importance in Industrial applications. He also
explained various certification courses offered by IRIS and job
opportunities in various Industrial sectors. MR.Madhusudhan,
Director of Industrial Radiographic Inspection Services (IRIS), expressed the opportunities in the field
and also briefed about internship opportunities.

Two Day Workshop on Non-Destructive Techniques
A two day Workshop on “Non-Destructive Techniques” was
organised on 20th and 21st April 2018. Mr. Madhusudan K T, Man-
aging Director, Industrial Radiographic Inspection Services (IRIS)
spoke about materials used in application and the various pro-
cesses used in material processing techniques. The deterioration
of products over a period of time was the main reason for using
of NDT methods.
The speakers were enriched the knowledge of students about
various NDT Techniques like Die penetrating Testing, Ultra Sonic
Testing, Radiography Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing. Also
the speakers stressed upon the need and the advancement of
NDT methods and its industrial application in the modern In-
spection process.

Department of Mechanical Engineering had taken an initiative in organizing an Aptitude Competition for 6th semester students, in order to make students aware of the importance of aptitude in the screening process during placements. The competition was conducted on 22 February 2018. The question paper comprised of 60questions for time duration 60minutes. The Students with highest marks are awarded.

Recent Advances in Automation for Manufacturing
A Technical Talk on “Recent Advances in Automation for Manufacturing” was organized in the depart-
ment on 19th March 2018. The talk was delivered by Mr.
Raghunath A, Asst Manager, Manufacturing division,
BEML, Mysuru.
Mr. Raghunath A , shared their knowledge about latest
technologies adopted in BEML and Products that are be-
ing manufactured by BEML unit. Given some information
related to development and history of Ashok Leyland.

Department has organised a Industrial visit to Bharat Earth Movers Ltd. [BEML] Mysore Division for 4th Semester students on 19th May 2018 . Prof. Devaraj M R & Prof. Niranjan Kumar V S accompanied the students during the visits.
Students visited many sections like Light Assembly, Major Assembly, Fabrication and Machine shop both conventional and non-conventional sections of TRUCK DIVISION & got the knowledge about parts manufacturing of chassis, body, differential gears and other parts and assemblies done for their vehicles.
Students also witnessed the completely assembled and ready to deliver DUMP TRUCK vehicles of different tonnage capacities like 60, 100, 150 and 205 tons. Also seen the WATER SPRINKLER TRUCKS of 16000 and 28000 litres capacity vehicles used at coal and mining. The BEML is the only company in India which is producing 205 tons capacity DUMP TRUCK vehicle and is the largest capacity vehicle.
