    NORTH ELEVATION

SCALE 1 : 1/8The rooftop balcony is a space for students to engage with the outdoor environment and have a place to congregate and relax. The

archway provides an entrance to the courtyard and an invitation to move through the space.

    SOUTH ELEVATION

SCALE 1 : 1/8The large glass windows facing the courtyard of Camino allow for a great connection between the students of the pavilion and the outdoor

environment. Additionally, the structure of the ramp provides a means of circulation, congregation, and accessibilty.

This depicts well the spatial relation between the pavilion and Alcala Parkway. The atrium is extremely crucial to the public,

inviting, and open feel to the space.

This map illustrates the potential for our site to host new roads, new access points, and open space opportunities including plazas and outside eating areas.

Utilizing a trac pattern of a roundabout, the new design can direct trac to a new parking lot towards the southwest corner of the site as a way to create a dierentiation between recreation spaces and parking spaces. There are newly added plaza areas for outdoor eating and sitting near newly added buildings for the potential to be a cafe.

The newly added access points to USD are on Linda Vista Road and Cushman Place. They are directed to the roundabout which is thought to be a central hub to the site where a tram stop would be. It is an aim to better accomodate all forms of circulation including trams, pedestrians, bikes, and cars.

The site of Alcala Village presents itself with an interesting location. It is located between two distinct areas, one of immense hardscape and one of immense vegetation.

The campus of University of San Diego is highly vegetative with natural landscapes surrounding many of the buildings as shown in this map of this portion of campus. Other parts of campus have planted trees, plants, owers, and grass to keep the school as an incorportaed element of nature. As one moves closer to the site, the amount of vege-tation diminishes.

The area to the southwest of the map is in an area of great commercial use with vehicular activity and little vegetation. Besides a few planted trees here and there the space has little greenery and is composed of mostly hardscape.

Our site is important because it presents this area in beteween two dened areas. It is a great opportunity to explore a space that connects the hardscape and softscape. It is a median area that intervenes these two types of conditions.

Alcala Village of the Univer-sity of San Diego primarily consists of close surround-ing commercial areas. Indus-trial areas are farther west of the site, and the cast majori-ty of the farther surrounding areas are residential. Although The University of San Diego owns the proper-ty of our site, there are many open spaces or buildings that do not reflect that.

The larger residential area has a great influence as to what is produced in this area, and it is essential to development in a direction that suits their needs as well as the campus needs. Com-mercial land use will be criti-cal in further development, but in a way that can com-bine campus and residential
