This document will explain you how to connect the “Flow Board” in mass flow configuration.

1. Get a Flow Board, cables and valve 2. Download the driver 3. Run HyperTerminal 4. Connect the board 5. Follow the ASCII protocol to communicate with the Flow Board.

1. Get a Flow Board, cables and valveThe Diagram illustrates you the interfaces and connections of the Board.

All the accessories (valves, tubes and power supply) are provided by MCQ Instruments.You also need a standard USB cable (A plug to B plug).

The scheme below illustrates you the connection for the Mass Flow Configuration:

2. Download the driver From our website (www.mcqinst.com/Download/FlowBoardDriver.htm) you can download the instruments driver, when the download finishes, unzip the downloaded file.

3. Download Hyper Terminal In windows xp run HyperTerminal from start >> programs >> accessories >> communication >> HyperTerminal.If you have Windows Vista, download HyperTerminal software from http://www.hilgraeve.com/hyperterminal.html.

Then select "Install from a list or specified location (Advanced)" and click next.

4. Connect the BoardPower the board from provided external power supply. Connect the board to a USB port on your computer. The green power LED should go on. The Add New Hardware wizard will open. Tell it not to connect to Windows update and click next.

The wizard will search for the driver and then tell you that a "USB Serial Converter" was found. Click finish

Power the board from provided external power supply. Connect the board to a USB port on your computer. The green power LED should go on. The Add New Hardware wizard will open. Tell it not to connect to Windows update and click next.

Now open the HyperTerminal software, then give a generic name to the connection and click OK.

Select the COM port configured as USB and click OK.

Select the serial device. To find out, open the Windows Device Manager (in the Hardware tab of System control panel). Look for a "USB Serial Port" in the “Ports” section.

*Bit per second 921600; Data Bits 8; Parity none; Stop Bit 1; Flow Control Hardware. Now you can use HyperTerminal interface to communicate with the Board.

You can download the ASCII communication protocol from MCQ Instruments website (www.mcqinst.com/download/documentation/protocolflowboard.htm)

5. Follow the ASCII protocol to communicate with the Flow Board.

Now you have to set the parameters, like in the screen below* and then click Ok.
