For adults seeking a healthier lifestyle through increased physical activity. Each walk offers unique educational opportuni- ties: information about Y fitness coaching, personal training and fitness classes; principles of nutrition; sight- seeing elements; and provides an enriching social engagement. Over the course of 16 weekly one-hour sessions, a trained lifestyle coach will help you learn about healthy eating, getting started with physical activity, overcoming stress, staying motivated and other behavior changes, all in a comfortable classroom setting. The YDPP is based on research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) which showed that by eating healthier, increasing physical activ- ity and losing a small amount of weight, a person with prediabetes can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by 58%. PROGRAM GOALS Reduce body weight by 7% Increase physical activity to 150 min/wk Two Classes offered right here at McBurney! First Ever Jujitsu Conference/Tournament in the USA! The United Nations of Jujitsu will be holding its annual Conference/Tournament at the McBurney YMCA on August 27th – August 29th. Founded in 1991 the United Nations of Jujitsu comprises of many European Countries, South Africa, and the United States. This will be the first time the conference/tournament will be held in the United States. Roman Lutak, Jujitsu (Zyujitsu) instructor at the McBurney YMCA is the official delegate for the United States. The Conference/Tournament will consist of seminars with different instructors from all over the world, demos and competition. Breast Feeding Support Group Wed. August 3 | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pmLa Leche League of Downtown Manhattan will be offering an evening meeting open to any woman interested in breast-feeding. The meeting will offer information and support for breast-feeding. Nursing mothers, pregnant women, family members, care-givers, and health care professionals are encouraged to attend.
