EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

• Proposals for Professional Design Services for PARKS Signage and Wayfinding Design Standards were received and the selection committee short listed three firms. PARKS received permission to negotiate with the highest scoring firm from the

Board of Commissioners at meeting of May 22. PARKS will start negotiations with the firm in June, 2018. The professional

services to be performed will include design of a standardized signage program to be used for the development of park entry signs, wayfinding signs, ball field identification and miscellaneous park signage.

• Additional park Paving Projects are being identified and prioritized for Phase II paving with the remaining budget. Additional

projects anticipated being completed are West Cobb Aquatic Center, entry drive to Pitner Road RC Airfield and miscellaneous

paving at Jim R. Miller Park. Paving at the Mable House Amphitheatre lower parking entry/exit drives, as well as the Wild

Horse Creek Football parking area are complete.

• The conversion of eight natural grass fields to synthetic turf at Hubert Soccer Complex (four fields), Mud Creek Soccer

Complex (three fields) and Terrell Mill Park (one field) is complete along with associated lighting and fencing improvements.

All fields are open to the public.

• Installation of the rubberized walking track surfaces at Mud Creek Park, Hurt Road Park and Sweetwater Park has begun.

The walking track at Mud Creek is now complete and open for use. The installation at Sweetwater Park is underway and is

scheduled to be complete in early June. The rubberized track installation at Hurt Road Park is scheduled to begin the first

week of June 2018.

• The preparation of a new PARKS Master Plan (Countywide) is complete. The Master Plan has been reviewed and approved

by the Rec Board. It will now be submitted to the BOC for consideration at a future meeting.

• Proposals for the preparation of Master plans are being solicited for six new County properties acquired via the 2008 Parks

Bond Program.

• The construction of a parking lot and restroom building near the community garden at Green Meadows Preserve is

underway. Erosion controls measure have been installed as well as the construction entrance. Site grading has begun.

The contract award for the restoration of the historic house was approved by the BOC and contracts were sent to the

contractor for execution and submission of bonds and insurance documentation.

• The Construction of the PARKS Administration Complex (including improvements to the small engine repair shop) is underway. All site domestic water lines, fire line and sewer line have been installed. The foundation slab for the Administration

Building has been poured and the structural steel is being erected. The roof and siding is complete on the new Shop Building.

Interior work is nearing completion. A certificate of occupancy for the shop is scheduled for the first week of June. The

project is funded by both the 2011 and 2016 SPLOST programs.

• Construction of the new PARKS Inventory Control Building will begin in early June, 2018. A preconstruction meeting has been held and the Notice to Proceed was issued to the Contractor.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

• Construction of the improvements at Price Park is continuing. Installation of the masonry for the restroom building is

complete and roof truss installation and decking has begun. The plumber is prepping for rough-in.

• A kick-off meeting for the design of the new operations and agricultural processing complex at Hyde Farm was held and the

design of the structure is underway.

• The improvements at Mabry Park are continuing. Installation of the horse fence along the Mabry property is underway. The contractor has installed binder on the park roadway. Mass grading is nearing completion and the header curbs are being

poured for the parking lot. The construction of the boardwalk for the trail system is underway. The restroom/maintenance building slab has been poured and the masonry work is has started. Electrical cable is being installed in the conduit along the

park roadway. The water line loop system has been installed.

• The assessment of the facilities identified as candidates to receive artificial turf is complete for the Cobb County School

District Joint Facility Project. The scope will include converting an existing grass field(s) to synthetic turf. A meeting will

be scheduled with the District to discuss the findings.

• The Master Plan is complete for the Discovery Boulevard Property. The plan has been approved by the Historic

Preservation Committee, the Recreation Board and the Board of Commissioners. An RFP was developed for the design

consultant and sent out to three (3) qualified firms. A pre-proposal meeting was held with the qualified firms and design

proposals are due on June 7.

• Work on the list of approved interior improvements at the Mable House Complex is complete. The design of the terraced seating on the grass slope behind the amphitheater fixed seating is complete and the project is being advertised for

construction with bids due June 18. Work is slated to begin in November, 2018 following the performance season. The roof

replacement at the stage and backstage areas of the amphitheater building and the cleaning and sealing of exterior walls is

complete.

• The structural steel and roof decking has been erected for the new Event Center at Jim R. Miller Park. Interior wall framing

work has started with interior and exterior masonry moving forward. Plumbing, electrical, and HVAC installation is continuing.

Installation of the pylon tower is underway.

• Contracts for a new electronic message board at Jim R. Miller Park were executed and a preconstruction meeting was held.

The double-sided board is planned to be located in an area that is visible from Windy Hill Road from both directions.

• The construction of two new ticket booths at Jim R. Miller Park is nearing completion. Construction of the main ticket booth

is complete and the CO obtained. The south ticket booth is nearing completion.

• A conceptual Master Plan for Old Clarkdale Park was presented to the community on March 15, 2018 and feedback was

received. The Designer prepared a more definitive plan with conceptual pricing based on the input from the residents. A follow up meeting was held with the Community on May 24, 2018 to discuss the options presented and the comments received at the

meeting are under review.

been put into service. The Cobb EMC power feed for the South Ticket Booth has been delayed until the completion of more time

sensitive work associated with the Event Center. No events at the park have required the use of the South Ticket Booth in the

meantime.

Project Description:

The project consists of designing terraced seating on the slope behind the amphitheatre, roof replacement at the stage and

backstage areas, site drainage improvements behind the restroom building and cleaning and sealing of the exterior walls. Interior improvements include ceiling tile replacement, demolition and renovation of the kitchen and existing laundry room, new appliances,

painting, refurbishing floors, new lights, new ceilings, new furniture for the green room and replacement of countertops.

Paving Improvements were completed at Mable House Amphitheatre entry and exit drive, as well as Wild Horse Creek Football Parking Lot. These are the additional park paving projects that were identified and prioritized for Phase II paving with the remaining budget.

RUBBERIZED WALKING TRACK AT MUD CREEK PARK, SWEETWATER PARK, AND HURT RD PARK The addition of a rubberized surface to existing walking tracks at Mud Creek Soccer Complex was completed.

Interior improvements completed include ceiling tile replacement, demolition and renovation of the kitchen and existing
