How to Register for Short Breaks You will need to register for a gateway card to use any activities funded by our short break programme. You will also need to show activity providers your childs gateway card when booking/attending. Each gateway card contains a unique reference number which will be specific to each child or young person. Gateway card benefits

Gives your child or young person access to a range of short breaks activities

Enables your child or young person and family to book our Short Breaks facilities (caravan, beach hut and lodge)

The gateway card identifies to activity providers that your child or young person has a disability and/or additional needs and may require support to participate within the activity

The information you provide helps us plan short breaks so that there is a fair distribution across the Isle of Wight

Parents/carers and siblings do not require a gateway card to support their child or young person in accessing the Short Breaks programme. Bodster Equine Assisted Learning CIC Ages 5 - 18 We offer fun, interesting and educational. We offer respite and also make a difference to the lives of people with complex needs through the use of Equine Assisted Learning. This is an innovative, experiential approach which takes place in an outdoor environment. The children involved in each session will help to plan out each session according to what they would like to learn about the ponies/horse. There is no riding involved. Learners in our sessions will interact with our small herd of ponies using various exercises on the ground. We aim to offer sessions to children with complex needs, with poor literacy and numeracy skills, including those on the Autistic Spectrum, with ADHD and those with mobility difficulties who have experienced difficulty accessing open, inclusive activities. Our courses can be delivered to meet individual needs and each learner is encouraged to work at their own pace. Our activity aims through fun exercises to also develop skills such as:- the ability to initiate activities and problem solve exercises without worrying about doing something 'wrong', confidence and self-esteem, awareness of effects of behaviour and the development of skills required for successful social interaction such as communication and teamwork kills. If coming for the morning session on a Saturday feel free to bring a drink and snack for tea break. If coming for a Saturday afternoon or all day session please bring a pack lunch.
