Sinners and SaintsOne of the writers who has had a profound

influence on my life is Fred Buechner. Buechner is aPresbyterian minister from NewEngland who has written over30 books. One of his morerecent books is The Longing forHome from which I want toshare an excerpt that has meanta great deal to me in my ownpilgrimage of faith:

I receive maybe three or four hundred letters a yearfrom strangers who tell me that the books I have spentthe better part of my life writing have one way oranother saved their lives, in some cases literally. I am

deeply embarrassed by such letters. I think, if they onlyknew that I am a person more often than not just as lostin the woods as they are, just as full of darkness, in justas desperate need. I think, if I only knew how to savemy own life. They write to me as if I am a saint, and I

wonder how I can make clear to them how wrong theyare.

But what I am beginning to discover is that, in spiteof all that, there is a sense in which they are also right.In my books, and sometimes even in real life, I have it inme at my best to be a saint to other people, and by saintI mean life-giver, someone who is able to bear to others

something of the Holy Spirit, whom the creeds describeas the Lord and Giver of Life. Sometimes, by the graceof God, I have it in me to be Christ to other people.

And so, of course, have we all - the life-giving, life-saving, and healing power to be saints, to be Christs,maybe at rare moments even to ourselves.

I challenge every member and friend of Pisgah todare to share something of Christs love and grace withsomeone!! As Buechner puts it --- you have it in you tobe Christ to each other.

The Mission and Evangelism Committee helps

Pisgah Church members go into the community to meet

the needs of our neighbors and we help our neighborsfind Pisgah Church. One way M & E helps us themembers of Pisgah Church serve

our community, and helps others findout about Pisgah Church is byparticipating in the Woodford CountyRelay for Life. The Relay for Lifeprogram supports the work of the

American Cancer Society to prevent cancer, to helprecovery from cancer, to find a cure for cancer, and toremember.

This year the Woodford County Relay for Life willbe at Falling Springs Park, Versailles, starting at7:00p.m., Friday, June 4, and walking through the nightto 7:00a.m. Saturday morning, June 5, 2010. The goal ofeach team is to have someone walking all night long. Inaddition, each team constructs a campsite and raisesmoney for the American Cancer Society.

Later on Saturday, June 5, there is a horse race inNew York, the Belmont Stakes the third leg of the

Triple Crown. We are using this race horse connection,and the fact that many members of Pisgah have aconnection to the thoroughbred industry to select ourtheme. This year, the Pisgah Relay for Life Team willorganize around the theme of, A Day and Night at theRaces. Our campsite at Falling Springs will try toimitate the paddock at Keeneland with various ways toraise money for the American Cancer Society, take care

of our horses on the track, and introduce PisgahChurch.

On Sunday, April 25, I invited the Pisgahcongregation to join the Pisgah Relay for Life Team withan incentive: Everyone who joined before 5:00p.m. April28, 2010 would be assigned one of the horses entered inthe 2010 Kentucky Derby, run on May 1, 2010. OnSunday, May 2, 2010, the Pisgah Relay for Life teammember with the winning horse would win one poundof Campbell Graddy fresh cut asparagus, at our teamorganizing meeting following the Sunday service.

We will continue recruiting Pisgah Relay for Life

team members throughout May. Fortunately, there isanother opportunity to win after the Kentucky Derby.

We will assign horses entered in the Preakness Stakes toPisgah Relay for Life team members, so there will be asecond opportunity for a pound of Campbell Graddyfresh cut asparagus to be awarded on May 16, 2010.

Womens Retreat

women attended which was sponsored by the MaryShepherd Circle and led by Jeannette Priebe. The retreathelped the women focus on learning to listen in prayer.

Women of the Church Luncheon

A Note from the AdministrationCommittee

It is spring at last and I hope everybody is enjoying

the change of season as much as I am. The Dogwoodsare in bloom and there is no prettier place to be thanKentucky in the spring time.

The April Treasurers Report is out and our financialposition is looking solid. We are 29% of the way throughthis year and our total income is 32% of budget.Pledged income is 34% of budget and unpledged incomeis 24% of budget. While unpledged income is slightlybehind budget it is an improvement over last monthsreport. Our total income position is very good; we allneed to be diligent about our giving to insure that we donot go into the summer slump we have seen in yearspast.

The expense side of the ledger looks good as well,with our total expenses at 24% of budget which is 5%below budget. Our Elders, Deacons, church staff, andcommittees are doing a great job holding down ourexpenses, good work everybody.

I am happy to report that the financial position forPisgah looks good at this time. If we all continue to bediligent in our giving and continue to hold down ourexpenses, our financial position will remain solid. Letsall keep up the good work2010 is looking good forPisgah.

Life in the Church

their family on the death ofHappys father, RichardBroadbent III, on March 29 in Lexington.

Linda Kuder and her family on the death of herhusband, Jim, on March 31 in Georgia.

I would like to thank the entire congregation for allyour love, prayers, and support over the years! I have

been very fortunate to have received the Pisgahscholarship for the past four years of my undergraduateeducation. In May, I will graduate from the Universityof Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree inDietetics. In August, I will begin Physical Therapyschool at the University of Kentucky. During my time inPT school, I will learn both through classroom learningand clinical experiences over the course of three years. Ihope to continue my relationship with the church duringthis time, as it is a great source of comfort and supportfor me.

Cemetery Association Meeting

As you probably know, we were to receive a reporton the progress of by-laws formulation from Joe

Johnson six months following our fall 2009 meeting.Therefore, we are having a meeting at 10:00a.m. in the Academy Bldg. on the 22nd of May. Other business tobe considered at that time is: our legal status and thecurrent tax code, price of plots and services, interval

activities in the cemetery, certain historically relevantindividuals buried in the cemetery, and reports on thenew design and permanent markers in the new section.Please contact Abe Fosson 873-7582 with any questionsyou might have regarding this matter.

Summer Worship

We will begin our summer schedule onMay 30. Worship will begin at 10:00a.m.

This month, there will be note cards in thepew racks for you to suggest hymns for us

to sing together during the summer.

Pisgahs Bible Camp

The Bible Camp will be from Sunday, June 6 thru Thursday, June 10, from 5:15p.m. -- 8:15p.m. We willbe serving dinner. The program is called "Heroes" and itteaches us that regardless of age or size, with God'sdirection we, too, can be Heroes.

oKendall Johnson is a member of the WoodfordCounty Middle School track team. She took goldmedals in the 4X400m relay, 4X200m relay and800m individual event (with a time of 2 minutes and50 seconds) at the Bryan Station Middle Schooltrack meet last week. Run, Kendall, Run!

Pisgah Day in the CountryMark your calendars. June 5, 9:00a.m. 2:00p.m. is

the annual Pisgah Day in the Country. It is a wonderfultime to get out and enjoy the Pisgah community. Heldat Ashbrook Farm, just down the road from PisgahChurch at firegate #24, the event includes a hugebarn/yard sale with many new and used items. Theseitems include plants and garden accessories, childrensclothing and toys, household furnishings, jewelry, adultclothing and many miscellaneous items.

Their will also be live music, a bake sale and lunch! As well as lots of activities for children including free

pony rides!Proceeds from the sale are used by the not-for-profit

Pisgah Community Historic Association to preserve andbeautify the Pisgah Historic Agriculture District.
