Flammable gas Detection in SG8

The sources to survey:•Flammable gas room (supply)•Mixing room (4 purifiers racks +Patch pannels)

Hardware + installation•7 detection points: (4 in purifiers racks + 2 at air exhaust ducts + 1 in flammable gas room)•Lights + Sirens + central unit in SG control room + cabling to SRPrice ~ 22k CHF + 5k CHF (cables). Dismantling of old installation done by LHCb.Schedule 6/7 weeks from ordering (last week)

Open IssueAll the FGD system should be powered back-up diesel (not yet available in SG8and already over used)

Flammable racks – Ar with 2 to 6% H2

Racks are declared as zone 2: the racks are closed at the bottom, lifted 10 cm (on rails) and connected to a dedicated extraction duct (forced air ventilation).Detection Heads needed (bottom of racks)

Flammable gas Detection in SG8 - Action Matrix

•The actions on the power will be taken by DSS (already cabled). Note: this is different from other SGXs.•All the other actions (ventilation, sirens, lights …) will be taken directly by the the FGD unit•DSS will get all the all the contacts as information (e.g defaut of the ventilation)•Fire detection in SG not yet installed (will need ESD as well)

Flammable gas Detection in SG8 -CV issues

Ventilation IssuesMeeting Held on 16-04-2007

TS-CV TS-CSE PH-DT1 + 4 Exp.

Goal: Get Homogenous CV installations in all SGX

Model: SGX1 (completed but not yet accepted). The model include both room pulsing and extraction and rack exhaust systems A variable speed extraction system for the racks as been installed and testedat ATLAS. The speed of the gas exhaust will be linked to the speed of themain exhaust system. (Apparently, at the nominal constant extraction speed wastoo high for the sensors.)Main Issue SGX1 is new, while we want to recycle the existing CV in SG8

Next: TS-CV will get offers for SG8 CV upgrade-refurbishment.In addition to the refurbishment of the existing installation:-CV power not cut by AUL-AUG -Provide contact to ‘outside’ about the status of CV-Manual operation box for FB. Already exists, to be checked.-Link to TS-CV supervision (Wizcom?)

Schedule: after reception of SX1

Fire Detection For SG8

Preliminary meeting May 10(Floris Bonthond, Daniel, Laurent, Eric)

Proposal:1 Sniffer system, for mixing room, control room, CV room and Flammable supply room.Simpliest granularity (1 detector)Pipes located at ventilation ducts.

2 Optical detectors in the Neutral gas supply room.

Offer from TS/CSE by end of May.Installation: ~September

Issue: all the information is reported (cable) to the Fire Control Unit in SR. If we want to get back the info to DSSwe need to pull a cable from SR to the SG DSS patch panel … Check if it exists already something or if it can be done together with the Flammable Gas detection …

ODH SYSTEM

Baseline & Implementation

Protect against Oxygen Deficiency Hazards in the UX85. Extension of the tunnel ODH system

StatusCeiling Three ODH sensors to protect against He release from AT/ACR equipment. Already accepted by SC, operational Bunker Two sensors in the Bunker region (confined space below RICH2, 100m3 CF4). Installed, not yet accepted.(not installed exactly as requested, tbc)

Action Matrix

1 sensor below 18%: Flash lights, Ventilation set to Maximum, Level3 alarm2 sensors below 18%: same + evacuation alarm

CO2 Detection System

The Bunker is kind of semi-confined spaceProblem with CO2 use in RICH2: CO2 concentration toxic from few %,i.e. below the ODH threshold.Note: there are also neutral gas patch panels around …Recommendation from SC (visits with G. Lindel 13/02 and J. Gulley 14/05):CO2 meter in the bunker with local alarm during RICH2 C02 operation Portable + procedure or fixed system.

Stand-alone system (vigaz)+ Flash light + siren = 1400 euros

Problem: radiations!Solutions: pull aspirations lines up to chicane?

(SC will lend a portable CO2 during CV stop of May-June)
