Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or A mathsy philosophical rant So we've been trapped in the routine, By society's standards. It's dark. Time is wasted. We're seeing negative numbers. Counting money, counting paper Followers and likes? Fame plus fortune are alright But they're all variables in life. Can't you see in this equation There's no happiness, no light? Seven billion people, two billion smart phones Trying to use the same equation Instead of thinking on their own Can't you see that to solve problems, We gotta start from scratch? Grab a pencil and a calculator, Look inside yourself One hundred billion planets, One hundred billion cells The ratio is 1 to 1, We are equal, not divided. Now you see that we're the same? wake up and live united, We're the universe itself. So look up from your phone Don't waste your days away, Start counting stars and smiles Don't forget they're there. The distance to the sun, 93 million miles Wake up but keep on dreaming, it's not that far away.

* * * Sine are Y values Cosine equal X values Tan Y over X * * * I feel the ember of pie all 360 degrees of it, it taste so good, if I at a last meal I would eat pie not 3.14 of a pie not 1 Radian of a pie but 360 degrees of pie, What kind pie? 60 degrees of Apple pie 60 degrees of Cherry pie 60 degrees of Blueberry pie and 180 degrees Blackberry pie Why pie? the beauty of the circle the ways it’s versatile the way it’s sharable 10 people 36 degrees each 100 people 3.6 degrees each 5 people 72 degrees each and most all because it’s delicious. Pie. * * * Waking up early, every single day, first period math, gonna learn it Mr. Sneed's way. SOH CAH TOA, means sin, cos, tan, oh Mr. Sneed you da man. Using our Unit Circle triangle knowledge, we can make it into college. But without Mr. Sneed's interactive math fun, oh boy we'd be done!

* * * Math Raptacular!! Chorus Inversion, you’ve got two types One kind you add, one kind you multiply (×4) Verse I The additive inverse of a number is its opposite So when you add them together, you get zero out of it It might sound a little complicated, but I’m here to give you examples so you don’t have to fake it (−7) + 7 is ZERO 3.2 + (−3.2), ZERO 1⁄5 + (−1⁄5), ZERO Now watch your mathematical fear turn to ZERO Chorus Verse II The multiplicative inverse is a number’s reciprocal So when you multiply them, you know the typical answer is 1 And that’s why I’ve come So let me tell everybody how it’s done First off, you gotta have a fraction to start with If you have an integer, put a 1 below To find the multiplicative inverse, you know Bring the bottom number up and put the top one below 7 × 1⁄7 is ONE 8⁄3 × 3⁄8 is ONE 0.25 × 4 is ONE Without a doubt, if you can’t do decimals, you better find out! * * * Period 2 Once there was a triangle named Tim His life was sadly devoted to sin Sin made him feel absent So he went off on a tangent

And he now feels he has talent * * * Math Called a universal language For it is simply Made up of an internationally used System of numbers and equations That every child must learn Math Even though Not every kid is good at it They must learn to memorize Every concept Yet they are often told To use only one way Math Beautiful complexity Each number coming together To solve the puzzle But sometimes the answer Is nearly impossible to find Math is excruciatingly tedious at times Math is difficult in every way at times Math is unique and beautiful at times The universal language of math is worth it * * * Math poems, Math poems, It's all one should want. Math poems, Math poems, It's all one could want. But whence one looks upon the Google, And can only find pics of snicker-doodles, One longs for the day Math poems may appear On the world wide web; similar great literature near.

And though most choose between subjects English and Math, There's a "Math Poems: the Classics," A whole new class! Math poems, Math poems, It's all one should want. Math poems, Math poems, It's all one could want. * * * Math, Upon innocent high schoolers, it will unleash its wrath It’s frustrating, it’s sad. It really just makes us mad. It can cause stress, It can turn us into an emotional mess. And when it comes to that test, We can only try out best. However, math does more than just make us cry. It helps us to answer the question, “why?” How do we convert to degrees from !? Well it’s a radian, so take 180 and multiply. Don’t know how to find a missing part of a triangle? Don’t whine. Just use tangent, sine, or cosine. You see, math is actually pretty great. It helps us find side lengths, angles, x’s, y’s, and even convert weight. So if you take the time and really care, You can learn so much, and be so much more aware! * * * I try, try and try, The more I try The more I cry. Struggling to do my math, My mom said well, “there is a way you can find your path.” I said what are you talking about? She said just watch some Kahn Academy video about the subject. I said mommm! I am shy. “She said that is a lie.”

Page 6: Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limerickssneedmath.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/3/7/41371699/aa_poems.pdf · Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or

“Beside, you do not need to talk to anyone, so go and try.” I asked, do you know how difficult it is to do math that has to do with Number theory, Probability, Trigonometry, and pi? She did not reply.” So, I said bye. As she went, I type in “Kahn Academy.” And watched a video about a geometric apogee.” As I sat back on my seat, I said math is my life and my responsibility. As far as the laws of mathematics refer to reality, they are not certain; and as far as they are certain, they do not refer to reality. * * * I walked down a street I tripped on a curvy curb That was surprisingly square Hit my head on a log But i am radically still here * * * Math is cool It's a lot of fun We do it at school And you learn a ton Some think it's a pain But it's good for ur brain Doing math all day Makes me yell 'HORRAY' A pencil, paper, calc. Is all you need And a rad teacher, like mr. Sneed Circles, parabolas, and triangles All on a graph All these easy tests are making me laugh * * * How can something so complicated be so simple? x and y, 1, 2, 3,

Is this all math can be? Now I see, math is everywhere around me; sales tax, angles on the max, I am surrounded by math. * * * Fo' sheezy, I'm so great, now that Kobe's 24 I can rock the number 8 8,12, 24 no stutter no porky, 48,72 y’all know it’s true * * * Soh cah toa; math- The key to finding theta. Without, we’d be lost. * * * So it's Algebra, Well, it is so very hard, but it's also fun! Period 5 Math without numbers Makes no sense math without a calculator makes it intense math on a date equals the bill Math without Soh equals no Cah Toa Physics isn't really science it's just math for the use of an appliance and when I look at my dear and see her pissed off face I wonder how her exponentially negative attitude could have held my taste and when I go on walks well I pretend I'm Sneed and take pics of geometric majesty * * * The Defintion of Math Haiku: Investigation of related sciences Using symbols

The Queen of Math Once upon a sine, in the land of parabolas and lines, there lived a mathematical queen, who was living the math dream. She did math from dusk to dawn, and she never stopped, not even to yawn, because the graphs needed plotting, the tables needed filling, and the equations needed solving. She mathed everyday, and she never got whiney, not when she was 30, not 60, not even 90. She always made the time to do math, she never stopped, so she never took a bath, She always put math first, When you called her, she’d throw her phone in her purse then say,“I’ll callc-u-later!” She lived a happy math life, she cut her pi with a knife, her decrees were known as degrees, and she ruled with joy and ease. “O fair radian,” her subjects would say, “We love you more each and every day!” Their shouts could be heard across the plane, “how blessed are we to have a queen with a mathematical brain!” * * * Fractions, ratios, parabolas and x are all part of math, and are important in leading you down the right path. 2 plus 2 equals 4, helpful math that one day might get you out the door. Subtraction is a necessity just like addition,

numbers can disappear just like a magician. Triangles, squares, circles are all shapes to learn, concepts that are every students concern. If you’re not careful, problems will trick you, but if you’re lucky, they may just stick with you. Quadratics can be solved with diamonds and boxes, and although it may be boring you must stay conscious. Math is just something each person must learn, so that later in life you are able to earn. * * * math is fun math is cool math makes you want to go to school math is smart math is great math doesn’t hate just don’t be late! Yay MATH!!!!! * * * Many numbers in math Calculators make math easy Easy math is good * * * I go through math like I'm sprinting on a path. Algebra 3-4 that's where I score. When I bust through the door I solve the equations and look for more. Doesn't matter tangent, cosine or sine I'm ready to shine. From parabolas to the London eye I'll solve till I die. I have no greed I keep my speed and chill with my boy sneed. From radians to degrees I never scrape my knees. I fly like a butterfly and sting like a bee, I could even graph the exponential growth of a tree. My math game is fire it keeps going like a rolling tire, and if you deny it you're a liar. * * * Period 6 Oh Pythagoras Why Do You Torment Me

With Math Problems Daily * * * What is math? Math is algebra, geometry, calculus, addition, subtraction, division, X, Y, A, B, and C. Math is fun sometimes Math is challenging Math seems pointless… But it's not Math is Ms. Maleah, Ms. Mcgloughlin, Mr. O, Mr. Bush, Ms. Yarlott, Ms. Stark, Ms. Morgan, Mr. Kolinsky, and Mr. Sneed. Math is math * * * The unit circle Has different triangles Ratio-degree * * * I've found myself ,here in a room Thoughts of math fill my mind I am trapped within 3 walls A triangle now I face The angles I see Next to me 45 then 45 a 90 too. How do I find a missing side? divide the hypotenuse by the square root of 2! Hypotenuse is easily found when a leg is multiplied by √2 * * * I thought to myself one day As I sat on the computer and played. That I should get of my butt

Page 11: Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limerickssneedmath.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/3/7/41371699/aa_poems.pdf · Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or

And stop with the fuss. So i can get on with this thing and stop being a gloomy gus. But as i sat down and looked at the ground. I said softly to myself “god dammit” I had nothing to go on nothing i could see. That would be funny to others but me. So I sat there in my black swivel chair and looked up in the air. And thought of all the math that I knew. I thought of functions and graphs, lines and maps. But nothing came to. I thought of circles and angles, tangents and tryangles. But still i had no clue. And then it hit me and I silently agreed. That i should do a limerick and that is what you see. * * * Why do we need math? Because it puts us on a narrow path. Even though it sometimes makes you swell up in wrath, Just study it in your bath. To most, Math just causes you stress, Never the less, Thats not the case. Its a workers base, Math is in every place. Math doesn't have a realistic face, But when it is used, It leaves a remarkable trace. Math surrounds you, Until you go blue, It’s just something you gotta do. Period 7 Math is like the sun, Math doesn't like to help out, Math is like the moon.

Page 12: Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limerickssneedmath.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/3/7/41371699/aa_poems.pdf · Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or

* * * From the start I hated all the equations and shapes, hated tryin’ to break the numbers just to clear my name Homework was a horror beyond anything else alive, abandoned ‘till the next day just to give me peace of mind Nothing ever changed as I rose up through the grades except one thing – I broke math down! Whole numbers and integers, though I still don’t understand ‘em, can be my friends, we’ll work together, as long as I’m fightin’ to land them And once I put my mind to it, really, really, work, I can grasp this convoluted sine that serves as miracle and prophet in the Church of Unit Circles. Algebra especially can become a tickling breeze if you figure out how to ask for answers and be patient – set aside all the time for it that you need. * * * The sunlight cast beautiful rays upon the earth, y=5x+.5 to be exact The moon a perfect circle, its circumference varying shades of grey My happiness is like a line, always going up My hard work is greater than or equal to, anyone else Whenever a grey day comes my way,

Page 13: Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limerickssneedmath.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/3/7/41371699/aa_poems.pdf · Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or

the sun squares it away The earth is filled with math, like the points on a graph * * * Math Poem: It's a Twisty Turning Path Whenever I'm gonna add, divide or multiply I don't look down or to the sky I go straight to math w mr sneed He knows what to do and he does that deed Teaches me about math in all forms In his class it's just the norm Unit circles and Pythagorean theorem Are pretty easy, no need to fear 'em We learn calculations and graphing equations We figure out word probs that will help us get real jobs Algebra ain't easy it's not always fun But at the end of the day I roll up my sleeves, throw my hair in a bun And get to work on math It's a twisty turning path * * * From the Mona Lisa to pine cones on a tree, This pattern starts with an initial clue, Branching from one then two then three, Each number is the sum of the previous two, A numerical series found on the land and sea, This sequence is the greatest breakthrough * * * Unit circles are so nice They never have lice Or even mice Perhaps if I could have a slice, I would not have mice or lice

Page 14: Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limerickssneedmath.weebly.com/uploads/4/1/3/7/41371699/aa_poems.pdf · Math Poems, Raps, Haikus, and Limericks Period 1 "Do the math and wake up" *Or

Unit circles are so cool I want to bring them to the pool You see they teach me during school In math of course, I use them as a tool
