Why are we here? •London Maternity SCN established April 2013•Patient experience subgroup created

– Snap shot SCN survey suggested basic communication and care sometimes lacking2

– Looked for innovative way to explore issues

Why are we here? •Aim: Use the workshop as an ‘ignition tool’ to build connections and relationships across the broad maternity community to enable true collaboration, co-design and ongoing conversations to improve maternity user experience.•Bespoke maternity scenarios, collaborative approach: Real stories form users, complaint letters, staff and social media.

Who is here? It is key to bring everyone to the same level, flatten the hierarchy, remind people that

they are all equal.

We are all here in multiple capacities.

Professionals are also mothers, fathers, sisters, friends and family – with their own stories and birth experiences.

There is plenty to celebrate about what we already do well – locally, regionally, nationally.

We are here to explore how we might improve or change things across maternity services.

What do we need from you? •Listen, be open minded and respectful.

•Photos will be taken and we are using social media to share the word. Please let use know if you object so that we can exclude you from photos.

•Evaluation forms – Be constructive. This is a continuous learning experience. Your feedback will help to improve other #MatExp workshops.

•Your commitment (pledge) to do something differently will be followed up after the event.
