ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The experience of In-plant training at JK PAPER LIMITED Unit:Central Pulp Mills has

developed my knowledge as in technical operation for which I thank the management of

the mill and technical department of the mill.

I would like to express my intense feeling and gratitude toward Mr.H.K sharma (GM-HR),

Mr.Mahesh Bhat (Sr.GM-PRODUCTION),

Mr.Mohit Tyagi(C.M-PAPER MACHINE PROCESS). For his co-operation during my training period. The credits also goes to HODs

shift In-charge who have helped and co-operated with me during my training period.

I express my deep sense of gratitude to Dr.Vivek Kumar for arranging my training.

STEAM AND CONDENSATE SYSTEM OF PM-2

INTRODUCTION

Paper dryer or cylinder are the most popular method of drying a sheet of paper. In the

drying process steam is introduced inside the paper dryer at varying pressures depending on the

type of paper being manufactured.Steam condenses inside the drying cylinder and gives up its

latent heat. The condensate layer,non-condensibles,scales inside dryer shell, dryer surface

contamination, dryer shell, air film, paper and water vapour all offer resistance to heat

transfer.Improvement in dryin will be possible by quickly removing the condensate, keeping it in an

agitated state ,removing non condensables , evacuating dryer pocket humidity, keeping proper felt

tension.

In practice a typical sheet with 55-65% moisture enters the dryer and leaves with a

moisture content of 3-7%.Taking an average inlet and outlet moisture content of 65% and 5%.7.769

t/hr water has to be removed for production of 4.5t/hr .Thus sufficient heat is to be supplied to

evaporate this water together with supply of sufficient air to carry away the water vapour produced.
