    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    ABSTRACT

    The phase two development of Dunhuang Hotel is located in Dunhuang city which is a city in northwestern Gansu province, Western China. It was a major stop on the ancient Silk Road. It is situated in a rich oasis containing Crescent Lake and Singing Sand Dunes.

    The Silk Road Dunhuang Hotel phase one was founded in 1995. It is situated against the back-drop of the picturesque Mingsha Sand Dunes. It combines modern facilities together with a touch of classical architectural design to provide comfortable accommodation to Silk Road travelers. The hotel captures the spirit of the Tang Dynasty with its unique architectural design including the large rooftops and long corridors of the Han and Tang dynasties, the enclosed courtyard-style design and mud walls of the northwestern part of China, and the replicas of late Tang, Ming and Qing dynasty furniture.

    The phase two development of Dunhuang Hotel is the new development project which located at the west-south of the phase two development of Dunhuang Hotel with a nomad district between the two developments.The new development is near the famous scenic spots like Ming Sha Hill ,Ye Eya Spring and White Horse pagoda.

    Development Potential

    Dunhuang is famous for its profound historical background and diversity of culture, therefore con-servation of Chinese culture could be the main theme of the development. Generally the buildings in Dunhuang are designed according to Chinese philosophy principles with simple architectural style. The essence can be abstracted to design new buildings responding to the diversity culture of Dunhuang. Besides, the view of Singing Sand Dunes and Qilian Mountains is great hence lots of people were attracted to discover this oasis. The Chinese culture serves as the base with the desert life, relax vocation and cultural education for the new phase two development.
