This game should have been a formality but losing 23-20 against a team using mainly back-ups in the second half has asked a few tough questions. “It has not been an easy season  and we are not making it any easier for ourselves” said a disappointed Steve Ella. Melbourne began well enough and it was running back Tyrone Redman who was the focus. After a 12 play drive it was Redman himself who capped it off with a 2 yard run up the middle. The excitement was short lived as Brisbane replied swiftly and Robbie Vaivai again showed  just how much he has come on a s a passer when he attacked Peter Marks and found Buddy Goodwin 16 yards down the right for the score. The teams then traded field goals before Robbie Vaivai again found Goodwin this time deep over the middle for the go ahead score. Meanwhile Hayden Napoletano was finding life difficult and even more so when he was intercepted by Zach Curtis. This allowed Brisbane to get into position for a late field goal sending the teams in at the half separated by 10. Barry pulled a number of starters out for the second half including Robbie Vaivai who was replaced by his brother Jack. Jack was even more dangerous with his legs and kept Brisbane moving along. Another field goal to Cade Joass making life difficult for Melbourne. Finally with desperation starting to set in Napoletano found Sam Segayaro in the end zone from 16 yards out and then a late field goal to Scott Lawrence had the home team back to within 3 points. But Jack Vaivai was solid under the gun and he was able to manage the offense to run out the clock.  Injury Report; n/a

 Match Report;

Brisbane win decisive mental battle

against MelbourneMelbourne,VIC- Brisbane needed to beat Melbourne by 63 points to

wrestle the Minor Premiership away from Townsville and as this was

an impossible task victory for the Queenslanders against Melbourne

was not going to mean a whole lot. However perhaps it meant a lot

more than we thought?

“It was one of those awkward games. We wanted to win to keep the

momentum going yet we wanted to rest guys. To do both was

outstanding. It has given us a real mental edge over our opponents and

a real edge over Melbourne” said Craig Barry after the game.

Melbourne has lost to both Townsville and Brisbane on home soil in

consecutive weeks. This game should have been a formality but losing

23-20 against a team using mainly back-ups in the second half has

asked a few tough questions. “It has not been an easy season and we

are not making it any easier for ourselves” said a disappointed Steve

Ella.

Melbourne began well enough and it was running back Tyrone Redman

who was the focus. After a 12 play drive it was Redman himself who

capped it off with a 2 yard run up the middle. The excitement was

short lived as Brisbane replied swiftly and Robbie Vaivai again showed

just how much he has come on as a passer when he attacked Peter

Marks and found Buddy Goodwin 16 yards down the right for the

score. The teams then traded field goals before Robbie Vaivai again

found Goodwin this time deep over the middle for the go ahead score.

Meanwhile Hayden Napoletano was finding life difficult and even more

so when he was intercepted by Zach Curtis. This allowed Brisbane to

get into position for a late field goal sending the teams in at the half

separated by 10.

Barry pulled a number of starters out for the second half including

Robbie Vaivai who was replaced by his brother Jack. Jack was even

more dangerous with his legs and kept Brisbane moving along. Another

field goal to Cade Joass making life difficult for Melbourne. Finally withdesperation starting to set in Napoletano found Sam Segayaro in the

end zone from 16 yards out and then a late field goal to Scott Lawrence

had the home team back to within 3 points. But Jack Vaivai was solid

under the gun and he was able to manage the offense to run out the

clock.
