mtac's 24-‐hour Film challenge 2013

Lights, camera, action!

The 24-Hour Film Challenge is MTAC's signature event,

showcasing some of the most breath-taking youth filmmaking talents in our city.

Contestants, working in groups of up to five members, have 24-Hours to

script, film, and produce a five-minute short movie,

which must include a line, sound, and prop given to them by the MTAC Academy Awards team.

In In January of 2013, the 5th Annual 24-Hour Film Challenge was successfully held

at the Markham Theatre, with eleven great films and many live performances.

We hope you once again rejoice in this years' talent-filled 24-Hour Academy Awards night!

“What was the inspiration for your film, Live?”The main inspiration for “Live” was Fight Club, we tried to analyze the aspect of the human condition

and the idea of a man going through his own journey. Finding Nemo was also an inspiration as

we related to the fish and again, the journey. Inspiration can come from anything reallInspiration can come from anything really. Working backwards with the prop, the black umbrella, we sat down together and threw out any ideas we had. Oh, also the line really helped us along! We realized the

potential it had and thus “Live” was created.

“Why should teens participate in the 24-‐hour film challenge?”

The 24 Hour Film Challenge was honestly a really The 24 Hour Film Challenge was honestly a really fun experience. Challenges and opportunities like

these don’t come by too often, and it’s a great chance to bond with friends. Unlike a school project, you are given full creative control, which lets people develop artistic skills to manage and direct, as well as work as a team. Besides, how many other chances are you really going to have to have your own film displayed really going to have to have your own film displayed

on the Markham Theatre screen?

Fun Fact: “Live” was filmed

in downtown Toronto, and the entire team pulled

an all-nighter there!

Art Show

In the February of 2013, MTAC brought back our annual photo contest. Given the John Green quote "Some infinities are bigger than other infinities", contestants were asked to capture through their

lenses what these words meant to them. We were extremely pleased with the amount of creativity and

ddepth that these photos showed.

Shortly after, MTAC held our annual art show at the Mckay art gallery on Main Street Unionville. The two winning photos from the photography contest were featured during the event. We received a wide range of works from painting to comtemporary sculptures.

With thousands of visitors coming to the gallerythe ethe event turned out to be a great success.
