tsA New Book—Inside & OutThere’s a lot to command your attention in this 21st edition of the MARKETING ATLAS.Inside, the most obvious addition is the eight-page center section, featuring the first-, second-

and third-place winners in the inaugural MARKETING Awards. The competition drew nearly 100 entrants who submitted more than 300 entries. Some 2,300 visitors to the marketingnw.com website voted for their favorites among the largest collection of local marcomm products ever assembled in one place. These were combined with the votes of 18 local and national marcomm professionals to determine the winners.

And the card-size listings that are the essence of the ATLAS are, as always, a testimony to the creativity and cleverness of the agencies and individuals represented. Many contain QR codes that enable you to connect with valuable information beyond the printed page.

Outside, the clean and powerful cover image, featuring none other than Atlas himself, is the work of local designer Ken Shafer, whose national clientele include the likes of Tiger Woods and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. And this edition marks the first time the “strike-through” varnish process has been applied to the cover art as well.

Thanks for your patience in waiting for this 2012 edition, which was necessarily delayed in order to include the MARKETING Awards section. Enjoy.

The powerful cover image was designed by Ken Shafer of Ken Shafer Design, whose extensive credits include identities for Tiger Woods, the Seattle Sounders and the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as the cover and layout for Columns, the UW Alumni Association magazine, which he serves as designer. The strike-through varnishing process on the cover is the work of the ATLAS printer, Consolidated Press. The process adds both enhanced visual contrast and texture to the finished product. And it’s all done all in one pass, so there also are savings to be realized, along with the higher visual impact.
