Stabilized student enrollment in a highly competitive independent school market
Recruited talented administrative leaders (Director of Admission, Director of Development, Upper School Head, Facilities Manager) and built a cohesive and collaborative leadership team
Secured school membership in the Pennsylvania Association of Independent Schools (PAIS) and led the school through its first PAIS accreditation process
Restructured college counseling office to create a better experience for students and families
Hired several head varsity coaches which led to success and visibility of the athletic program
Introduced merit aid program which resulted in higher enrollment and interest from new market segments
Increased faculty diversity by over 75%
Introduced school transportation and increased admission traffic in new geographic markets
Academic Leadership
Recruited and hired over 30 talented faculty and staff members since July 2011
Led a committee to codify and document Sanford’s PK-12 curriculum and added of high-interest middle school and upper school electives to Sanford’s course offerings
Formed school’s technology committee and created Sanford’s first PK-12 technology plan
Collaborated with teacher leaders to foster sustainability and STEM efforts
Introduced campus-wide wireless network and intercom system
Created a committee to develop school’s first PK-12 teacher evaluation process
Introduced and implemented seven-day rotating scheduling, the school’s first foray away from a traditional model
Created and taught Upper School leadership elective, The Art and Adventure of Leadership, modeled on University of Southern California President Steve Sample’s university course Fundraising/Advancement Leadership
Planned and executed Front & Center capital campaign and raised over $5.75M
Built/renovated three significant campus buildings as a result of Front & Center campaign: performing arts center with a 450-seat theatre, STEM center, and US library/extended day center
Surpassed annual fund goal each year 2012-2015 and added 100+ new leadership donors
Formed an internal marketing committee and implemented the school’s first marketing plan including new school logo, school crest, website, and full-color print publications
Developed symbiotic relationships with local organizations including University of Delaware, youth athletic leagues, and real estate offices
Board Leadership
Collaborated with Board leaders to develop school’s first strategic plan, Ambition in Action, in over a decade
Partnered with Board leaders to envision campus master plan which led to a successful capital campaign and transformed Sanford’s campus
Drafted Sanford’s first Board-approved Diversity Statement
Assisted in recruiting several new trustees who brought time, talent and treasure to the Board

Whitfield School (St. Louis) 1998 – 2011
Whitfield School is a grade 6-12, co-ed day school with 450 students on a 25-acre campus.
Head of School (2004 – 2011) Oversaw the development of Whitfield Honor Council and Honor Code
Implemented an innovative 1:1 laptop program in grades 6-12 that utilized Citrix and Linux for an affordable technology model
Increased faculty participation in administrative decision making which improved transparency and created greater leadership opportunities for teachers
Led a committee to examine and re-draft the school’s mission statement
Guided a Board strategic planning committee that resulted in a five-year plan
Led a Board committee that revised the Board’s bylaws
Instituted new committee structure to align with NAIS Best Practices, including the introduction of Committee on Trustees
Implemented ongoing Board education and orientation for new and veteran trustees
Planned and executed endowment/capital campaign that netted $5,000,000
Increased the school’s endowment to $7,000,000 from less than $3,000,000
Raised $1,000,000 per year in annual fund giving in fiscal years 2005 – 2011
Led construction projects that resulted in an expansion of a new baseball field complex and improved school parking
Developed and implemented programs for faculty recruitment and retention
Increased faculty diversity by 80%
Created system of written feedback and dialogue for professional growth and evaluation of faculty and staff

Married to Nicol Anderson for 19 years. Prior to starting our family, Nicol served as Midwest Regional Merchandising Manager, Tommy Hilfiger Inc.
Nicol chaired the Sanford School auction in 2014 and 2015 and co-chaired Grandparents Day in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016
In 2015, Nicol co-chaired Wine/Women/Shoes Fashion Show benefiting AI du Pont Children’s Hospital
Nicol currently serves on the Dining & Social Committee at Greenville Country Club
