    RuggedSmart connectore SeaSPY connector is a custom brass underwater connectorthat supports a tonne of towing force. A PVC nose cone protects itfrom side impacts, while maintaining a streamlined tow body. Wehave never lost a SeaSPY from the connector, except for the timesomeone threw one overboard without connecting it to the cable.While theres some human error no mag can account for, the storyhas a happy ending: the customer went back a year later and foundtheir SeaSPY in working condition.

    Sleek DesignSeaSPYs sleek design resists snags. e inexpensive and eld replace-able tailns are the only protruding element, and they are designedto snap o should they ever get snagged on rocky outcroppings.

    Reliabilitye SeaSPY towsh is made of " super strong berglass coatedwith a bumper layer of polyurethane for extra shock absorption.

    Should even a drop of water penetrate the towsh, a leak detectorwarning appears on your screen to inform you. Call us over-protective, but in the event of a breach, SeaSPYs electronicsmodule is encased in a polycarbonate housing with O ring sealsfor another layer of security.

    e sensor itself is suspended on shock mounts to ensure the quality ofyour data isnt inuenced even if you drag SeaSPY along the sea oor.

    A quick glance self diagnosticLED system on our isolationtransceiver can save you hours offrustration. If all your connectionsare hooked up properly, a statusLED will glow green. If theres aproblem with one of the connec-tions, it will glow yellow. If theresa short somewhere, it will glowred, and the transceiver will safelyshut down the output power inmicroseconds.     Eliminate Shifts In Your DataHeading error is a noticeable oset in themagnetometer output caused by changingthe heading of the magnetometer withinthe Earths magnetic eld.

    Since SeaSPYs Overhauser technologydoes not display heading error, no matterhow the sensor is oriented in the Earthsmagnetic eld, successive survey linestaken in opposite directions will matchup perfectly.

    e benets to the user are four-fold1. Targets will not be missed because they

    fall between mismatched survey lines.2. Reduces post-processing. Competing

    technologies require the user to collecttie lines in order to level the data set(match-up inaccurate survey lines).

    3. ere will be no variation introduced inthe data by slight course changes duringa survey line.

    4. A magnetic map of an area will look thesame, regardless of direction in whichthe survey lines were conducted.

    Stable Timee clock used in the SeaSPY electronicsmodule is accurate to 1ppm throughoutthe entire temperature range, (as opposedto 100ppm found in competing magne-tometer systems) so it will be accuratelytime stamped to sync with diurnalcorrection (base station) information.

    In addition SeaSPY sensors containno consumable parts, so you wonthave to replace anything, like theexpensive lamps that wear out inoptically pumped mags.

    Overhauser EffectSeaSPY is a pulsed Overhausermagnetometer that measures the

    ambient magnetic eld using a specializedbranch of nuclear Magnetic Resonancetechnology, applied specically to hydro-gen nuclei.

  • Horizontal or Vertical Transverse GradiometerMarine Magnetics transverse gradiometers provide a rigid 2mstructure linking the sensors, and are well suited for close-inprecision surveys for small ferrous targets where short sensorseparation is needed.

    ApplicationsCable and Pipeline Survey A horizontal transverse gradiometercan be used to track cables, or pipelines in real time from relativelyhigh towing altitudes.

    Detection of Small Ferrous Targets Short baseline gradientmeasurement in any direction (longitudinal, horizontal, or vertical)is useful for eliminating geological interference and diurnal variation.

    Longitudinal GradiometerLongitudinal gradiometers provide the largest variation in availablebaselines, from 1.5m to 500m+. Again, Marine Magnetics commu-nication transceiver technology is unmatched in its ability to supportextremely long distances between the two towsh. Long baselinesprovide superior gradient measurement sensitivity and increaseddetection range. Longitudinal gradiometers are also extremelyhydrodynamically stable when deployed.

    ApplicationsShipwreck, Search and Salvage Medium baseline longitudinalgradient measurement can eliminate interference by geologicalbodies, while highlighting massive magnetic sources like steel hulls,boilers or engines. Smaller sources such as anchors or cannons willrequire a shorter baseline, and lower towing altitude.

    Environmental Survey Medium baseline measurement with a long-itudinal gradiometer can highlight shallow magnetic sediments,while eliminating deeper geological inuences. e baseline shouldbe on the order of magnitude of the expected towing altitude.

    Exploration Geophysics Long-baseline measurement with a long-itudinal gradiometer is ideal since the bodies of interest are oenfar from the sensor, and produce very small gradients. e baselineshould be on the order of magnitude of expected depth-to-source.

    A magnetic gradiometer measures magnetic gradient in one dimension by subtracting thedifference between two independent magnetic sensors. Since the Earths magnetic field is three

    dimensional, up to three independent gradient directions can be measured vertical, horizontal (across-track) and longitudinal (along-track).

    Marine Magnetics offers each of these gradiometer configurations. In addition, all SeaSPYmagnetometers are compatible, enabling existing SeaSPY customers to upgrade theirmagnetometer to the gradiometer configuration of their choice, as they need to.
