The Goldberg Variations BWV 988 are considered to be one of Johann Se- bastian Bach’s greatest masterpie- ces and one of the finest examples of polyphonic art in the history of music. In the score -which takes the name of the harpsichord virtuoso (and pupil of Bach himself) Johann Gottlieb Goldberg- all the genius of the German composer is concen- trated in an aria and its 30 variations bursting with vitality and displaying sharp contrasts and moments of su- perb virtuosity.
