The Chamber is always looking for ways to add value to membership and engage members in a productive and profitable way. The Open House Coffees offer a complete overview of the Chamber’s programs and services and are recommended for new members and those interested in learning about what the Chamber offers. Member Money Makers are mini-seminars in networking skills, preparing members to participate in the many events the Chamber provides. What’s the next step?

One-On-One 101 is a new Chamber event in response to members requesting more direction in developing relationships within the Chamber, forming strategic alliances for referrals, and making the most of their Chamber investment. It’s a step-by-step approach to establishing a plan for setting meetings, following an agenda and tracking success. It takes networking contacts generated from events and directs them into productive one-on-one meetings.

Whether you’re new to the Chamber, not yet a member or a member of long-standing, this event will get you on the track to starting 2010 with a plan of action and a tracking system to ensure your success. RSVP to join us for One-On-One 101, scheduled for Thursday, March 18th at 8:30 a.m. in the Chamber boardroom.

For more information on this event and Chamber benefits, contact Kelly Fanelli at (561) 833-3711 ext. 235 or [email protected]

ToolsforSuccessSeminarSocialMedia:WhatdoIdoNow?Social networking is creating quite a buzz in the business world. The recent Chamber Breakfast, sponsored by The Palm Beach Post, outlined some of the possibilities for business development via the internet. Attendees of our most recent Tools for Success Seminar discovered how to harness the power of Social Media to build their brand and increase awareness online.

Facilitated by Jody Underhill and Eric Kurit of Upside Down Iceberg, the presentation attracted a great crowd, reflecting the desire by Chamber members to know more about this amazing phenomenon. For more information on future Tools For Success Seminars, visit the Chamber’s website, www.palmbeaches.org.

If you are more inclined to share your expertise in writing, online

articles and blogging are the way to go. You can distribute these works to numerous free sites to build your

presence online.

Attendees learned how to optimize media time.Positioning

yourself as an Expert in your field used to be an expensive

undertaking; now, it just takes a little time to put together a 1-2 minute video, submit it to several free video sharing sites, and

you can be found online in numerous places.

Page 7: March Business Watch

March2010 7

There is a definite technique to writing messages that are limited to 140 characters in such a way that it compels the reader to click on a link

to your video, article or blog.

Attendees learned how to optimize media time.

While some look at sites

like Facebook and Twitter as time wasters, there are insider

secrets on how to use these two biggest Social Media sites to maximize

the exposure of your business and how they have built huge

followings for themselves and their clients.

One of the biggest questions

among the audience was, “How much time will this take?” The answer

was surprising.  One of the biggest innovations in Social Media is the ability

to automate the distribution of your information across multiple

sites.

NewChairsforAmbassadorCommitteeAs the Ambassador Committee bids farewell to current Chair David Randell, they welcome the two new Co-Chairs, William Brasmar and Kenneth Cunningham.

David Randell, of David R. Randell Photographics, joined the Chamber in 1999 and became a member of the Ambassador Committee in 2003. He eventually became Chair, where his magnetic personality gave the committee great energy and momentum. It grew into one of the most productive committees in the Chamber and positioned itself as a group of “movers and shakers.” David helped create and implement the criteria currently used to establish and maintain Ambassador status, which has proven to be very successful and aided in the committee’s growth and development.

Like David, William and Kenneth are successful entrepreneurs. William is the president of KPA Promotions, Inc. and has been a Chamber member for almost three years. Kenneth is the owner of the Gold Coast Financial Group, LLC and has been with the Chamber nearly seven years. Both of these gentlemen can be seen at almost every networking event and volunteer activity. Making introductions and assisting Chamber staff, they are truly an asset to the Chamber and its members.

The Chamber thanks David for his dedicated leadership and congratulates William and Kenneth on their appointments as Co-Chairs.

WhatisanAmbassador? As the Chamber’s public relations committee, the Ambassadors perform many important tasks for the Chamber. Most importantly, they help recruit and retain members, assisting the Chamber in meeting its membership goals for the year.

Ambassador Call-A-ThonsCall-A-Thons are scheduled at strategic times throughout the year to help bring in new members. Ambassadors invite prospective new members to events as special guests and answer questions about the Chamber.

Welcome New MembersAmbassadors are special guests at New Member Jump Starts, where they share their experiences with new members to give them ideas as to which of the many benefits of membership will be most effective for them.

Event SupportAmbassadors help attendees find seating assignments and name tags and facilitate introductions.

Ribbon-CuttingsAmbassadors appear in Ribbon-Cutting photos, tour member facilities and spread the word about the hosts’ companies.

Special name tags make Ambassadors prominent at Chamber events. You’ll find them welcoming attendees, making sure everyone is comfortable and finding the contacts they are looking for. Need some help? Ask an Ambassador! They are among the Chamber’s most active and involved members. They’ll share their success stories and give advice, provide introductions and direction. For more information on the Ambassador Committee, contact Jaime Crespy at [email protected] or (561) 833-3711 ext. 230. Kenneth

AmbassadorHappeningsThe Ambassadors have a jam-packed schedule for the upcoming month of March. Aside from their normal meetings and ribbon-cuttings, they will be conducting their quarterly Call-A-Thon at the beginning of the month. During that event, they will call prospective Chamber members, speak to them regarding the many benefits of joining the Chamber and invite them to an Ambassador Happy Hour. This will give the prospective members time to network with one another and receive guidance from the knowledgeable Ambassadors. The invitation-only Ambassador Happy Hour is scheduled to take place at the end of March and will be hosted by STORE Self-Storage and Wine Storage, a beautiful five-star wine and storage facility that was recently named the best storage facility in the United States. For more information on the Ambassador Committee, please contact Jaime Crespy at (561) 833-3711 (ext. 230) or [email protected].

Cleveland Clinic was the site for a very successful February event attended by members of the Health Care Committee and invited guests. Jill Burgess and the Cleveland Clinic staff were wonderful hosts, sharing their beautiful new facility, time and expertise. Dr. Laurence Beck, Medical Director of the West Palm Beach Health & Wellness Center, narrated a presentation about Cleveland Clinic’s history, today’s status and direction, and some detail regarding the new 4,000 square foot expansion at the CityPlace Tower location.

The Clinic will also host a reception for the Chamber’s Trustees on Wednesday, March 24th. The Chamber’s Trustee Program is an executive level networking group within the Chamber. Trustees are featured on the Chamber’s website and in its directories with their photos, bios and company logos and enjoy exclusive events, such as the March reception. This will give the Trustees the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art facility and enjoy a great networking event with their fellow Trustees. The Cleveland Clinic CityPlace is located at 525 Okeechobee Blvd. on the 14th floor. To learn more about Cleveland Clinic CityPlace, please visit their website, www.ccf.org.

For more information about the Health Care Committee and its events, please contact Ron Walters at (561) 833-3711 ext. 236 or [email protected].

The Chamber held its annual Spring Training event at Roger Dean Stadium. Players from the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals signed pennants, baseball cards and memorabilia for the baseball enthusiasts from the field. The Cardinals new Hitting Coach, Mark McGwire, stayed late to sign autographs for fans.

After the autographs, it was off to the party deck for a delicious meal from Carrabba’s Italian Grill – North Palm Beach, including Chicken Marsala and Penne Pompadore. TooJay’s Gourmet Deli

donated sweet treats for dessert and unique edible centerpieces.

Master of Ceremonies William E. Pruitt got the evening’s program started. Michael Hill, Vice President/General Manager of the Florida Marlins, introduced Manager Fredi Gonzalez, who has guided the club to two consecutive winning seasons, as well as second-place finish in the NL east last year. The system is sure to churn out more hidden talent this season, with Logan Morrison and Michael Stanton getting serious consideration. Chris

Coghlan, the reining National League Rookie of the Year, and Hanley Ramirez will lead a hard-hitting Marlins offense that welcomes the return of second baseman Dan Uggla. The Marlins are building for the future as the club looks to move into their state-of-the-art ballpark in 2012.

Manager Tony LaRussa, who begins his 15th season as Cardinals manager and is the winningest manager in Cardinals history, said “Any year that you are involved with Major League Baseball, your excitement level is very high, but when you have a legitimate chance to play in October, the excitement, at its highest, goes to another level.”

Alice Patrick from Missouri was the high bidder for the St. Louis Cardinals autographed jersey and Andrew Kartiganer was the high bidder for the Florida Marlins autographed jersey.

Special thanks to Carrabba’s Italian Grill, The Palm Beach Post, 760 AM ESPN Radio, TooJay’s, Brown Distributing, Pepsi Americas and Waste Management for sponsoring the event. Thanks also to table sponsors FPL, Palm Beach Kennel Club, WGCompass Realty Companies and Land Rover Palm Beach.

This event is a fundraiser for the Cardinals-Marlins Fund, which promotes sports for disadvantaged children. Chamber officials will be on hand on March 19 to present a check to the fund. Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals Spring Training games are held at Roger Dean Stadium through April 1.

C O V E R A L L Y O U R B A S E SSmartMarketingNo matter what kind of business you are in, your success will hinge on how well you market your company’s products and services. You may know everything there is to know about those, but not be an expert in marketing – now you are in trouble. The Chamber is here to help.

A sound marketing plan needs to cover an array of vehicles to get the message out on what makes your company unique. It needs to consistently represent you with images and text in print, on-line and social media outlets. Your branding will benefit from that consistency and link those experiences back to you in an easily recognizable form. Over time, that branding drives sales and helps you stand out from your competition.

The Chamber helps provide accessibility to cost-effective marketing through membership. Many of those marketing opportunities are free.

• New member listings in the Chamber newsletter introduce newcomers to their fellow members and to the community. The newsletter appears in The Palm Beach Post, where it reaches 80,000 households in 22 zip codes as well as being available digitally on palmbeaches.org for the entire month.

• Ribbon-cuttings also appear in the newsletter, with pictures and captions supporting the members business – all free with membership.

Membership listings also appear in the thousands of directories the Chamber publishes each year.

• The Guide to the Palm Beaches, Who’s Who in the Palm Beaches, Real Estate Guide and Health Care Guide all include member listings with contact names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, website and e-mail addresses.

• These powerful marketing tools also feature members twice, once alphabetically and once by business category - all free with membership.

C O V E R A L L Y O U R B A S E SThe Chamber gives its members a strong marketing presence online too, with free alphabetic and categorical listing on its website, www.palmbeaches.org.

• They drive traffic to member’s individual websites through links from the Chamber site, giving members access to the 45,000 unique visitors that visit the site each month. That maximizes the marketing presence of member’s sites, boosting ratings on search engines like Google.

• Social networking tools benefit from Chamber involvement. Articles, videos and speaking opportunities all fuel social media outlets, driving traffic to member’s websites producing sales.

Print, internet and

social media all work for members even while they

are sleeping! If they never make it to a single networking event,

these tools are supporting marketing efforts by covering all the marketing

bases – all free with membership. For more information on the Chamber, how it functions as a marketing tool and the benefits of membership, contact Kelly

Fanelli at [email protected], or contact the Membership Department at (561) 833-3711.

Brochures, flyers, business cards and catalogs are all welcomed in the Chamber lobby, where members can leave marketing and promotional products to be picked up by the many visitors to the Chamber.

• Committee meetings, networking events and visitor resources all bring people to the Chamber and many leave with arms full of directories and members’ materials – all free with membership.

• The Chamber receives countless phone calls requesting visitor and relocation packages. Many members’ brochures are included in response to specific requests.

Members are welcome to leave brochures to be placed in the Chamber lobby.
