AARP Foundation Tax-Aide helps low-to-moderate income taxpayers have more discretionary income for everyday essentials, such as food and housing, by assisting with tax services and ensuring that they receive applicable tax credits and deductions.

for the upcoming Farmers Market season that

will begin June 8th! We are looking for an as-

sortment of vendors, including but not limited

to, produce, baked goods, crafts, direct sales,

The Friends of the Roches-ter Public Library are hosting a monthly Queen of Hearts Raffle at Godfather's Pizza on South Dirksen Park-

way. Ticket sales end at 7:30 p.m. and the drawing will take place at 8:00 p.m. Each

ticket costs $1 or 6 tickets for $5. The winning ticket hold-er that turns over the Queen of Hearts card can win up to 80% of the money raised. If the Queen of Hearts card is not turned over, the winner will receive a $50 gift card. The Friends would like to thank Potter Drug of Rochester for donating $50 or $.10 for each prescription filled that month, whichever is higher. Fear of falling? A Matter of Balance is an evidence based program designed to help seniors reduce their fear of falling! ed to announce the seed library is now

open for its third year! Patrons are able to

come to the library and “check-out” seeds

at no cost to them. After you grow the veg-

etable or flower, we ask that you harvest

the seeds, keep some of the seeds to plant next year and return

some to the library. We will then place them back into the col-

lection for other patrons to “check-out.”

Our Community Donation Center could not exist without your support! Throughout the months, there has been a generous

outpouring of donations for the various organizations for which we collect. Thank you to everyone who has made donations/

contributions to our donation center and has supported those in our community!

The Library is grateful for donations throughout the year. Your dona-tions help us acquire materials that we might otherwise have been unable to purchase and also supply us with materials for our annual Book Sale. However due to the high volume of donations, we will only be able to receive donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Items must not be older than TEN years old and in good condition. Dona-tions should be brought in a disposable container that we can keep. We also ask that donations are not put in the book drop. We cannot accept Magazines, Textbooks, Encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest Con-densed Books, VHS and cassette tapes, and materials with mold, in-sect, or other natural damage.

If you love to read but are unable to visit the library, we can deliver your books to you! If you are ill (short term or long term), home-bound, have transportation issues, or are elderly with limited mobil-ity, please call us to discuss your qualification for this service. The goal of the Community Outreach Program is to develop relation-ships with members of the community who have special needs and may be unable to visit the library. Let us bring the library to you! This course consists of one eight-hour session for experienced drivers age 50 and over. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. Attending the course will allow for a discount on your driver's insurance. Registration Required.

Do you love tadpoles and frogs, but never get to see the stages in between? We will be starting with live bullfrog tadpoles, and discussing the lifespan of a frog. Over the course of the next four to twelve months, kiddos and all library patrons will be able to come in and watch the stages of development.

Have you gone forest bathing recently? Or noticed what trees in the forest are saying to each other? Join author, Melissa Koch, as she shares excerpts from her new book, Forest Talk: How Trees Com-municate. In this book, scientists from diverse backgrounds and fields reveal what trees are saying to us and to each other. Trees are essential to all life on Earth, yet humans continue to destroy forests to build roads, cities, homes, and farms. Trees need our help. Learn how to listen when trees talk. Melissa Koch is an author of nonfiction chil-dren's books and inventor of digital learning environments for children, educators, and adults. She specializes in developing materials that encourage youth from diverse back-grounds to pursue their dreams in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Her culturally-relevant STEM curricula ac-tivities have received recognition from the National Science Founda-tion, White House Science Fair, PBS, and others. She lives in Decorah, Iowa, with her husband, son, and Labrador Retriever. She and her family enjoy forest bathing and exploring. Following her book talk, Melissa will share why she loves researching and writing children’s nonfiction books, specifically STEM topics; an-swer questions; and sign copies of Forest Talk: How Trees Communi-cate.
