Rector’s Address

The Initiators of the Neocatechumenal Way were invited to

commence their pastoral work in the Diocese of Rome under Pope

Paul VI. The beginnings were slow. It was not easy to convince the

parish priests at the time for the need of a post-baptismal

catechumenate. The Churches were still full of people, the young

were visible and there were still vocations to the priesthood. It was

difficult to foresee the crisis that was to hit our parishes around the

world and so too in Rome.

Fortunately some parishes did begin to respond. Numerous lay

faithful discovered the beauty of Christian Life, lived in Community

and began to evangelize the world, again. For this reason, today we

have a missionary seminary in Sydney, many families rebuilt and

many young people eager to discover their callings.

To celebrate these 50 years in Rome, Pope Francis will be joining the

Co-founder of the Way, Kiko Arguello and many brothers and sisters

from around the world. Redemptoris Mater Sydney too is going, but

we need a little help also from you. We have managed to secure

some cheap airline tickets and accommodation which must be paid

by the end of March. Twenty five of us will be going at a cost of

$2,500 each. The families and communities of the seminarians have

been asked to help, but we also need financial assistance on this

special occasion from you, our Friends of the Seminary. Please make

a donation to RMS Sydney, BSB: 062439 Account: 10232704 and

mark the transfer with the annotation “RMSMAY50”. If you would

like to make a credit card donation please contact Alan at the

Seminary on (02) 9726 8114.

MARCH 2018

This year has begun again with a large group. We currently have 22

seminarians with still 2 to arrive. Six are currently on mission with 16

studying at Notre Dame Australia and the Catholic Institute of

Sydney. God willing, we hope to be able to ordain 2 deacons at the

end of this year.

We are also pleased to now have a full time Dean of Studies, Fr

Marlon who was formed at the Redemptoris Mater Seminary of

Perth.
