President's Report - March 2006 Hi Fellow Members,
New Member
At the March meeting we welcomed Robert Gardner and Steve McWiggan to the club. Robert drives a Hilux Ute and completed his Driver Proficiency Course with the Association last year. Steve owns a Patrol and has been 4WDriving for years; he is a Club 4WD Instructor and is also accredited as a chainsaw course Instructor. So with those qualifications he was quickly asked to join the Training Sub-committee and will be helping run the club’s courses. Once again Robert and Steve, welcome to the club.
Training Calendar
The club training calendar has been finalised and the details are published on the club website and elsewhere in this Newsletter. The program includes 4WD Proficiency Courses, an Intermediate Course, some Winch Recovery Courses, an accredited Level 2 First Aid Course, a Trip Leader Course and an accredited Chainsaw Course. Bookings for all courses are to be made to Corey, either by phone or email. You must book in for courses so we know that there are sufficient numbers to run the course. It is no use just turning up because if there aren’t enough booked in to a course it will be cancelled. Courses will not be run for only one or two people.
All members who have not yet completed their Proficiency 4WD Course should book in to a course as soon as possible even if the course is later in the year; we need a minimum of 5 members on each Proficiency Course to cover the costs of hiring the venue. All club members must have completed the Proficiency 4WD Course at a minimum, the Intermediate, Advanced and Winch Recovery Courses are for members who want to go further into the bush off road and want to improve their 4WDriving knowledge. The Advanced Course will be included into next year’s calendar.
Through Steve McWiggan we have been able to book the 4WD Training area at the Metropolitan Traffic Education Centre in Bayswater North to conduct the Practical Driving component of the Proficiency Courses.
Review of Club Rules and By Laws
A small sub-committee - Rod Kayler-Thomson, Bronco Milic-Zumberski and myself has been set up to review our rules and by-laws. If you have any suggestions for changes to them, give me a call or email any of us and your suggestions will be looked at by the sub-committee.

From the Editor
Having returned safely from our holiday it was straight back to work! Quite an exciting time in Melbourne with the Commonwealth games and I am sure that many of our members are involved in some way. I have been lucky enough to spend a few days at the Games Village fire station and it has been a great experience meeting people from all over the world.
Our trip to India was something of an experience. We thought we had completely escaped Delhi belly - but we must have got a bit overconfident because it caught us two days before we were to come
home.
Travelling on the roads in India was something of an experience. Not withstanding the fact that some of the roads made the tracks on Cape York look like freeways there seemed to be an almost complete lack of road rules. In the main size won! The biggest vehicle had right of way – except if you are a cow in which case you could go where you wanted when you wanted, even if you wanted to have a sleep in the middle of a main road. I seem to recall in one city we were in a car overtaking a truck overtaking an elephant when coming towards us was a bus overtaking another bus overtaking a horse cart. However we all seemed to survive to tell the tale. I have included a few photos from our trip in this issue.
Great to see our training program has now been finalised and some details are in this issue but for all information about training and for the latest club calendar please have a look at the club web site.
Remember I need your articles, reports, advertisements etc. This is your magazine. Hope to hear from you.
