Visions

With all humbleness and humility I write you today sitting in the new office that Shelia and I share in our converted classroom, March 1, 2013. By now, you all have heard about the fire and our new challenges in serving the Lord. I don’t believe that the Lord willed the fire to happen, but I believe that because it did, He has many blessings for us and new challenges and new paths for us as a con-gregation to face. We don’t know the many blessings ahead for us as we chart new paths in prepar-

ing for new facilities with renewed commitments to serving the Lord and each other as the body of Christ.

There are so many blessings that we have already experienced. There were no injuries incurred; we had wide community support; major furniture items including pulpit, pews, piano, and organs were salvaged: and the Fellowship Hall and Class-rooms were not damaged so we can continue with services, Sunday School, and all other activities as scheduled. We thank the Lord for all of these many blessings and the ones we keep seeing every day. Gordon Harrison (cell – 251-564-8613) is our point man/contact person and please contact him, the church office (251-267-3965) or me (cell, 205-441-5881; parsonage, 251-267-3417) if you have questions or concerns. We will keep all of you informed as we move for-ward with plans for the future.

Please remember all of us in your prayers that through it all we will continue to praise and thank the Lord for all He has done for us and for all we know he will do in the future if we are faithful in following His will for us – the body of Christ in Frisco City United Methodist Church. The church building was just a building, but the real church is the congregation – the body of Christ. This does not negate the feelings of grief that we all experience because of memories we cherish of our lives in the former beautiful facility. But, now is the time for building new memories while cherishing and holding dear the old ones.

I want to share with you one of the many Scripture readings that have been of comfort to me during this challenging time. Please listen to the words of God through the servant writer of Ecclesiastes: 3:1-8: (continued on pg 4)

“It Is Finished”

Easter Cantata

The Frisco City UMC Chancel Choir would like to invite you to this year’s Easter Cantata, “It Is Finished”. Our first performance will be Palm Sun-day evening, March 24th, at 6:00 p.m. We will have finger foods following. In case you miss the first performance, we will be performing again on Mon-day, March 25th at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you at one of these times!

Our Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Sat-urday, March 30th at 11: 00 a.m. at McKin-ley Park. All kids are invited! Anyone will-ing to donate plastic eggs and/ or candy,

please have them at the church by Sunday, March 24th. You can give

them to Kathy Turner or Julia Goolsby.

We are having a spe-cial Good Friday ser-vice, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. This service is known as the Tene-brae Service. We in-vite everyone to come

out and join us for this special, sacred time of worship.

We are having a Bake Sale on Saturday, March 23rd, in front of the Thrift Store,

from 8:00 a.m.—until. If you would like to bake, do-nate, or help, see Melissa Bowen. All proceeds go to-

ward our White Christmas Children’s offering.

Strawberry Chicken SaladStrawberry Chicken SaladStrawberry Chicken Salad

Ingredients

2 cups cubed cooked chicken breast 2 celery ribs, thinly sliced 1/4 cup chopped red onion 1/3 cup reduced-fat mayonnaise 2 tablespoons chutney 2 teaspoons lime juice 3/4 teaspoon grated lime peel 3/4 teaspoon curry powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups sliced fresh strawberries 4 Bibb or Boston lettuce leaves

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the chicken, celery and onion. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, chutney, lime juice, lime peel, curry and salt. Add to chicken mixture and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Just before serving, stir in strawberries. Serve on lettuce-lined plates. Yield: 4 servings.

Ingredients

3 cups fresh baby spinach 1-1/2 teaspoons olive oil 1-3/4 cups sliced fresh mushrooms 4 boneless skinless chicken breast halves (4 oz each) 3 green onions, sliced 1/2 teaspoon rotisserie chicken seasoning 2 tablespoons chopped pecans 2 slices reduced-fat provolone cheese, halved

Directions

In a large skillet, saute the spinach, mushrooms, onions and pecans in oil until mushrooms are tender. Set aside and keep warm. Sprinkle chicken with seasoning. Using long-handled tongs, moisten a paper towel with cooking oil and lightly coat the grill rack. Grill chicken, covered, over medium heat or broil 4 in. from the heat for 4-5 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 170°. Top with cheese. Cover and grill 2-3 minutes longer or until cheese is melted. To serve, top each chicken breast with reserved spinach mixture. Yield: 4 servings.

Potatoes with Mushrooms 'n' Peas Ingredients

2 medium red potatoes, cut into 1-inch cubes 1 tablespoon butter, cubed 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 1 cup sliced baby Portobello mushrooms 1/2 cup fresh sugar snap peas

Directions

In a 1-qt. microwave-safe dish, combine the potatoes, butter, salt and pepper. Cover and microwave on high for 4 minutes or until crisp-tender. Stir in mushrooms and peas; cover and cook 2-3 minutes longer or until vegetables are tender. Yield: 2 servings.

Frisco City UMC Pastor Elaine’s Birthday Surprise

On Sunday, February 10th, we had our

monthly fellowship gathering. Pastor

Elaine was out of town the prior week and when she returned,

we surprised her with a “Surprise Birthday Party”. We “got her good”!!
