Easter in my family

I think Easter in my family is a happy and very important day. We start to prepare for this day many days before Easter. First we start with decorating the house. I and my

brother bring a branch and we decorate it with laces. My mother glues the laces on the branch and then we decorate it with Eatser symbols: eggs, butterflies, hens, chickens, geese, flowers, ladybugs.

• Ten days before Easter we plant wheat grains on cotton. In ten days we have fresh green malt. Then we decorate the table with this malt and put dyed eggs on it. Then we light candles. On Palm Sunday we go to church and bring branches, wreaths. We buy beautiful Easter decorations and symbols.

• At Easter my mother and father give me and my brother chocolate eggs.

• My grandmother cooks the Easter dishes: sweet pilaff with rice and raisin, fish, gata. My granny put a coin in the gata. My brother got it and was very happy for it!

• I help my mum and granny to set the table.• In the evening when my mother and father come from the curch

we sit at the table to celebrate Easter. • We gather in the living-room. My parents and grandparents drink

red wine and say “Happy Easter. Christ has risen from the dead!” • Then my favorite part of the Feast starts: we play egg-fight. But

my brother always wins, because he knows how to choose the right and strongest egg.

• On Easter Sunday many towns and villages have traditional exhibitions.

• Easter Sunday begins with a bang in Florence . This is a three hundred year old traditional explosion of a cart, they believe it is a sign of good harvest, and that it will bring good luck for the city of Florence.

• • Easter Monday, also known as Little Easter (Pasquetta) is also an

official Italian holiday that is often spent enjoying the fresh Spring weather with family and friends in picnics. The Racing Of The Egg (Palio dell'Uovo) is a traditional Easter Monday game in the town of Tredozio. And in Barano d'Ischia, a traditional dance called the Festa della Ndrezzata takes place on the same day.

Eggs represent life, fertility and renewal, all of which are essential symbols of Easter. Dyed eggs grace many Easter tables, and eggs are often found in soups and in a traditional Easter pie (Torta Pasqualina). Roasted lamb, as a symbol of birth and the Shepard, is a traditional main course.

eggs are a traditional Italian Easter treat and gift! Chocolate eggs are a symbol of Easter even for non religious people. Everybody gets an egg for their dear ones. Most chocolate eggs are industry produced, however, every serious cake shop and bakery produces finely hand made eggs, using the best chocolate they have. Inside each egg is hidden a small gift. Or not so small, depending on how luxury the egg is!
