MANAGING YOUR CONCERNSMission critical energy users

Mission critical energy users have primary processes that highly depend on electricity. In case of an interruption, mission critical energy users are confronted with large negative consequences:

■ degradation of safety levels (e.g. of patients, personnel, visitors)

■ reputationTypical mission critical energy users are hospitals, datacenters and airports.

Managing your concernsEnergy failures will occur and even a back-up will not guarantee a 100% availability. The failure rate might be low, but never zero. Taking this into account, one should ask which risk level is acceptable. If it is too high, risk mitigating measures need to be set in place. DNV GL can help you with these measures.

Optimising safety and performanceBuilding on the combined heritage of KEMA and DNV, DNV GL offers completely independent risk assessment and management of your emergency power system. These condition and remaining lifetime assessment services include:

■ assessing - safety - maintenance - fitness for purpose - power consumption

■ identifying risks ■ recommending potential improvements ■ support in implementing an improvement plan

Condition and remaining lifetime assessmentEmergency restoration installations are only rarely operated, but if they are, a high reliability is required. As they are not in operation most of the time, it is difficult to establish whether they will operate properly upon sudden command. This question becomes more pronounced when the installation ages. Informatio regarding the current and future condition can be obtained by the following activities:

■ analysis of relevant historical data ■ inspection and on-line diagnostics ■ functional testing

These activities identify possible bottlenecks in the system or provide a lifetime expectancy. For a suspect component it also provides an indication of the need for maintenance. DNV GL supports you with:

■ a quick scan of your critical infrastructure and the functional fitness of the system to fullfil its requirements (is it adequately specified, is it up-to-date?)

■ an assessment of the remaining useful life, based on specifications and condition

■ setting up an adequate maintenance program, with the appropriate activities (inspections, diagnostics and functional tests) and their frequencies

DNV GL’s added value ■ continuous insight in risks ■ support in risk-related decision-making ■ optimizing the reliability in power supply ■ independent analysis of accidents and incidents ■ excellent quality and risk management based on KPIs ■ risk awareness in the organization
