    Malaysian Arts and Crafts.

    Malaysia is colorful and rich as its multicultural background its also including their arts and

    crafts, especially through Malay culture. These could be found more in classical malay

    artifacts such as tools and costumes. Among of them such likes batik, sarong, and songket,

    for tools, likes keris, tepak sirih, which has been used during ancient Malay civilizationaround !"" years ago.

    #rom cloths to kites, Malaysian artists use various media for their e$pression. %nternationally

    renowned Malaysian arts and crafts include fashionable beach sarongs.

    %n east coast states of Malaysia, Terengganu and &elantan are popular with batik for souvenir

    to bring home. 'atik is traditionally a techni(ue of hand)dyeing fabrics using wa$ to repel the

    dye in selected places batik also refers to printed fabrics decorated with classic batik

    motives. Another popular Malaysian fabric, is songket, it is made by weaving gold and silver

    threads together with fabric threads to create delicate designs.

    %n east Malaysia, *abah and *arawak some te$tiles have deeper religious significance. The

    pua kumbu +a sacred ceremonial te$tile is a process of weaving, its represents a spiritual

    and socio)religious undertaking for the %ban women in *arawak.

    -abu sayong is another popular handicraft item, the most authentic ones can be found in

    shaped /ar takes days in forming, firing, drying and engraving.

    There is dying folk art call wayang kulit +shadow puppet in &elantan. The Tok 1alang+puppet master a skillfully manipulates puppets etched from cow or buffalo leather into

    riveting characters from the odysseys of 2amayana and Mahabharata, against a backdrop of

    live gamelan music. 3ou also can find large and colourful kites called wau, its frame is

    handmade from bamboo, while the patterns and motifs are carefully glued on piece by piece

    from rice paper.
