Many people say that parenting is the most difficult

and the most rewarding job they have ever

been called to do.

Even with all the challenges a parent can

face, few ever regret taking on the task.

Why then, do so many parents seem stressed out and exhausted?

www.SharonBallantine.com

It isn’t that they don’t have love for their children, it is that parenting

wears them down.

Some parents aspire to be perfect all the time. They strive to give their

children the ideal childhood. They plan every minute and keep track of every activity that their child undertakes.

For them, the pressure of creating only perfect moments can leave them

burned out and exhausted.

Nobody enjoys being burned out and

exhausted and living constantly in such a state might make a

person question whether being a

parent was a wise decision.

The big question is this: “How do you recover your own sense

of joy in life without having to postpone it until your children have

grown up and have started living their own lives?”

www.SharonBallantine.com

Certainly it is your responsibility to take care of your children. What is easy forget is that you are

also responsible for taking care of yourself.

Sometimes you need to put your needs ahead of others in order to feel good

about serving and helping them.

It is far easier to serve others from a place of vitality and

well being. If you take care of yourself,

it will simply be easier for you to care for the needs of your

children.

From the outside looking in, it may appear to you that other

parents have things more together than you do. It is important to

remember that you are only seeing one part of the picture.

Rather than comparing yourself to the “Superstar Moms” and “MVP

Dads,” who always seem to deliver perfect joy to their children without any effort, give yourself a break and

recognize that nobody is perfect even if they seem to be -- including

you.

Instead of aspiring towards

perfection, give yourself

permission to be just "good

enough" sometimes.

The most important part of parenting is not baking the perfect birthday cake or chaperoning every school dance and

field trip possible.

www.SharonBallantine.com

The most important part of bing a parent is giving your

children love.

www.SharonBallantine.com

Do yourself and your children a favor, and let go of your ideas about the need to be a perfect

parent.

www.SharonBallantine.com

By allowing yourself to be easy and graceful and having a little looser grasp on all the nuances that create the illusion of perfection, you will be able to show up more fully in the lives of your children as who you are -- a kind and loving parent.

Give yourself permission to be easeful in your

relationship with your children.

Make time in your schedule to take care of your own

needs and you will naturally be a

more joyful and happy parent.

You and your children will be healthier, happier and more well-adjusted, and that is by far the best gift you can ever offer your

children.
