Can you tell us somethingabout yourself? What do youlike, your hobbies?

I am an art nerd. I love muse-ums and check out any exhibitin town, contemporary or clas-sical! Interiors are another pas-sion, (or maybe I’m justsuper-duper OCD), but I re-arrange my house every week.My 2 year old never knowswhat the heck is going on, buthas learnt that her dollies are al-ways in the same spot. I love tobuy junk shop furniture and domy own “restorations”. They al-ways involve leopard print andpaint!

How did you get the idea ofstarting a nail polish companyand how did you come up withsuch an amazing name (I per-sonally love it)?

Thank you! Well, our namecame from Sasha Muir, ourfounder and former CEO, wholoved the Mike Meyer’s sketchon SNL about “Nails like but-tah”! I myself was a sessionmanicurist for high fashionphoto shoots in London formany years, and had alwaysdreamt of creating a nail range

around “Fashion”, thatwould be based on realinteraction with thatworld. Being the Found-ing Creative Directorhere at butter LONDONis truly my dream job. Iget to paint my nailstwice a day, play withart and packaging, andwalk around barefootand covered in lotionsand potions. Brilliant!

Where do you usually get aninspiration for the new collec-tions? How would you de-scribe a process from the ideayou have till the final product?How long does it take?

Inspiration always comes fromwhat I see happening in Fash-ion. I work directly with manydesigners to create customcolours for their catwalkshows/collections, which givesme insight into major trendsand upcoming colour palettes. Iuse that knowledge to createnails colours and “textures”that are truly on trend, andbring our customers to the cut-ting edge.

What colours in nail polishwould be popular for this hol-iday season? What nail polishtrends do you think will bepopular in the next seasons?

We are celebrating the holidayswith a selection of metallics.Metallic lacquer feels festive,but more sophisticated thansay, glitter or just plain red.Look out for them now: FairyLights, Knees Up, and PerfectPrezzie – limited edition andgoing fast! S/S 2011 has a dis-tinctly retro feel, and I think ourcustomers are ready for moder-ately colourful nails again aftermany seasons of “greige”. We’llbe showing a whitish, bub-blegum pink, a cobalt blue, anda molten metallic apple greenamongst others. GORGEOUS!

The Creative Director of one of our favourite nail polishbrands, butter LONDON, Nonie Creme tells us what in-spires her, shares her beauty wish list, gives us tips on howto use a nail polish and gives us a sneak peek into theSpring trends.

What is butter LONDON’sbest selling nail polish? Whatis your personal favorite? Whatshade would you recommendto someone who is new to thecompany?

Our all time best seller is“Yummy Mummy”. It’s an ele-gant, opaque beige that suits ab-solutely every skin tone, and infashion year in, year out. It’s mytop recommendation to anyoneout there. My personal fav?Changes hourly!! Today it’sKnees Up, a show-stoppingmetallic red from our holidayselection.

What kind of shade would youlike to create? What was themost unique nail polish colourthis year in your opinion?

I’d like to work more with holo-graphic particles like the onesfeatured in our best seller AllHail the Queen. I’ll dive intothat a bit more for Fall 2011 I

think. My most unusual shadefor 2010 is Bumster, oddly beau-tiful mustard yellow from ourFall 2010 Collection. It’s unex-pected, but somehow looks con-servative and chic on the hand.

Maybe you can tell us sometips on how to take care of yournails and how to create a per-fect manicure?Most important thing to re-member is CONSISTENCY. Ex-ample: by using Melt Away bybL once a week on hard, thickcuticles, followed by gentlypushing back and exfoliation,you can literally “train” yourcuticles to be softer, smaller,and consistently moisturized.Like going to the gym orLatisse, these things work RE-ALLY well when done withcommitment and consistency!

When painting, use your thumbto gently pull the skin awayfrom each fingertip when paint-ing, and apply a little lacquer to

the end of every fingernail,wrapping the colour all the wayaround the underneath of thenail. Then apply the rest of yourshade a normal. Let nails drybefore applying topcoat (AL-WAYS use topcoat). Your nailsshould last 1-3 days longer thannormal.

And finally, please share withus what is on your beauty wishlist for holiday?

I’d love to see (and give) someTATCHA blotting papers in mystocking. I have terribly shinyskin, and these babies are key tomy survival! Also, I’m addictedto Lash Fusion mascara, nowthat I’ve got great lashes (thankyou Latisse!), I like to pushthem to the limits of length andthickness. Finally, I simplyadore almost every scent thatCREED makes. They are a veryold fragrance house with realhistory, and I feel like royaltywhen I wear their colognes.

I started my career at a communi-cations agency in Berlin which isspecialised in social media and IT;quite different to the Internationalwork with beauty brand RougeBunny Rouge I joined in 2007while I was looking for more cre-ative and inspiring tasks.

What do you like the best aboutthe beauty industry?

Since my childhood I have beenaddicted to all kinds of lifestyleand beauty musings. When Iwrote as a free authoress my in-terest for the beauty industry wasreinforced as there is alwayssomething to discover and to becurious about. Of course, beingamong the first trying out newtextures, ingredients and coloursis always exciting.

Holidays are almost here, can youshare what's on your beautywishlist?Among the top three of my wish-

list is definitely a spa treatmentas the winter started so earlythis year. Haus of Gloi "ParkinPumpkin Butter" might be niceas well and A'kin hair productswould be perfect, too.

We all have our favouritemakeup products so can youtell us about yours?

I love that my work is al-ways changing - I'm neverdoing the same thing fromone day to the next! I can bein New York on the Mon-day, shooting in a derelictwarehouse, and Paris byWednesday, modellingwacky beauty looks! It'shard work, but it's reward-ing - and I'm pretty muchmy own boss. I love that Iget to see - and be involvedin - the entire process; I havemy makeup done, I get towork with amazing artistsand then I write about it alltoo!Holidays are almost here,

can you share what's on yourbeauty wishlist?

I'm fast running out of my Bio-derma cleanser - I need a constantsupply! I'd also like a bright lip-stick to get me in the festivemood, and a deep, spicy fra-grance. Something grown-up!

We all have our favouritemakeup products so can you tellus about yours?

My favourites are always chang-ing, but there are a few stand-outproducts that I come back to timeand time again. One is EsteeLauder's Double Wear concealer,it's simply amazing, covers updark circles perfectly. Another isMyFace's foundation - I ab-solutely love it. Really light andnatural looking, I've had so manycompliments about my skin whenI've been wearing it! Clinique'sTake the Day Off eye makeup re-mover is one of my most re-pur-chased items, and I use a LOT ofdry shampoo!

It's almost the end of the year, sowhat were themost significant events andlaunches in the beauty world in2010 in your opinion? Whatbeauty products launched in 2010would you recommend?

There have been so many! Thingsthat jump to mind immediately

are the UK launch ofEdward Bess'smakeup range, whichis truly beautiful, anda small companycalled Love+Art

(www.loveandart.co.uk) whoproduce very ethical organic skinand body products. I'm hopingthat they will begin to expandtheir range! Product-wise, I'mvery, very impressed with theMyFace foundation, and alsoLancome's Teint Miracle. I'm ob-sessed with Estee Lauder's Ex-travagant Gold eye palette, theshades are so flattering andwould suit any skin tone!

And finally, everyone wants toknow, about the beauty and fash-ion trends for 2011. Can you sharewith us?

Magazines shoot three or fourmonths in advance, so it gives mequite a good head-start on futuretrends! I think that good, flawlessskin will continue to be a priority- more and more brands are pro-ducing light, fresh base productsand 'glow' enhancers. Thesmokey eye seems to ALWAYS beon trend, but varies slightly fromseason to season. I recently did ashoot with a deep, coppery eyewhich would be great for thosedark winter evenings, but I havealso seen a simple fine line abovethe lashes that looks sleek andneat. I have my own rule when itcomes to trends, and that is thatyou don't have to follow any ofthem! Be yourself, use them as aguide or for inspiration, but ulti-mately makeup should be funand not too time-consuming!

I started my career at a communi-cations agency in Berlin which isspecialised in social media and IT;quite different to the Internationalwork with beauty brand RougeBunny Rouge I joined in 2007while I was looking for more cre-ative and inspiring tasks.


Since my childhood I have beenaddicted to all kinds of lifestyleand beauty musings. When Iwrote as a free authoress my in-terest for the beauty industry wasreinforced as there is alwayssomething to discover and to becurious about. Of course, beingamong the first trying out newtextures, ingredients and coloursis always exciting.

Holidays are almost here, can youshare what's on your beautywishlist?Among the top three of my wish-

list is definitely a spa treatmentas the winter started so earlythis year. Haus of Gloi "ParkinPumpkin Butter" might be niceas well and A'kin hair productswould be perfect, too.

We all have our favouritemakeup products so can youtell us about yours?

I totally adore aromatherapyinspired products like ourMake-up Melt Cleanser towake up in the morning and relaxafter a long day. Also a goodLengthening Mascara to achievean adorable look without anyother products is one of my topbeauty essentials. Multipurposemake-up products like our Lumi-nous Skin Wand and DecadentDuo which are easy to use to keepmy beauty routine simple andhandy in the same time are amust. During the winter season Ican not live without Lip Balm thatneeds to work for very cold tem-peratures, too.


My personal top discovery of theyear is an Ayurvedic forehead oilflow treatment I recently had. Youdo not feel just relaxed during thesession but also detached fromeverything around you.The satin hair brush (Braun) is mybeauty tool of the year as it makesthe hair easily shine as well as thefabulous reconstructing shampooRussian Amber with amino acidswhich instantly brings your hairback to life. Products I would

I love that my work is al-ways changing - I'm neverdoing the same thing fromone day to the next! can you share what's on yourbeauty wishlist?

I'm fast running out of my Bio-derma cleanser - I need a constantsupply! I'd also like a bright lip-stick to get me in the festivemood, and a deep, spicy fra-grance. Something grown-up!

We all have our favouritemakeup products so can you tellus about yours?

My favourites are always chang-ing, but there are a few stand-outproducts that I come back to timeand time again. One is EsteeLauder's Double Wear concealer,it's simply amazing, covers updark circles perfectly. Another isMyFace's foundation - I ab-solutely love it. Really light andnatural looking, I've had so manycompliments about my skin whenI've been wearing it! Clinique'sTake the Day Off eye makeup re-mover is one of my most re-pur-chased items, and I use a LOT ofdry shampoo!

It's almost the end of the year, sowhat were themost significant events andlaunches in the beauty world in2010 in your opinion? Whatbeauty products launched in 2010would you recommend?

There have been so many! Thingsthat jump to mind immediately

are the UK launch ofEdward Bess'smakeup range, whichis truly beautiful, anda small companycalled Love+Art

(www.loveandart.co.uk) whoproduce very ethical organic skinand body products. I'm hopingthat they will begin to expandtheir range! Product-wise, I'mvery, very impressed with theMyFace foundation, and alsoLancome's Teint Miracle. I'm ob-sessed with Estee Lauder's Ex-travagant Gold eye palette, theshades are so flattering andwould suit any skin tone!

And finally, everyone wants toknow, about the beauty and fash-ion trends for 2011. Can you sharewith us?

Magazines shoot three or fourmonths in advance, so it gives mequite a good head-start on futuretrends! I think that good, flawlessskin will continue to be a priority- more and more brands are pro-ducing light, fresh base productsand 'glow' enhancers. Thesmokey eye seems to ALWAYS beon trend, but varies slightly fromseason to season. I recently did ashoot with a deep, coppery eyewhich would be great for thosedark winter evenings, but I havealso seen a simple fine line abovethe lashes that looks sleek andneat. I have my own rule when itcomes to trends, and that is thatyou don't have to follow any ofthem! Be yourself, use them as aguide or for inspiration, but ulti-mately makeup should be funand not too time-consuming!

This was the year of NailVarnish. Suddenly everyonewas making an effort withtheir nails which was fan-tastic to see. TheGreige/Beige shades madereal waves and convertedeven the biggest sceptics!And we were all wearingturquoise this summer ofcourse. I love Essie nail var-nishes the most. They arethe real trend setters when it

comes to shades. 2010 wasdefinitely a big year forcolour, with women feelinga little braver when it cameto bold lipstick shades etc.That is normally the case aswe slowly come out of a re-cession. A time for celebra-tion and fun!

And finally, everyone wantsto know, about the beautytrends for 2011. Can youshare with us?

Next year we’ll be wearingmatte lipstick (or mattifyingour fave lipsticks with pow-der), we’ll be more inter-ested on ‘fair-trade’ingredients (which I think isa more exciting concept thatthe over-used ‘organic’term) and we’ll be lookingto simplify our skincareregimes with a more mod-ern, streamlined ‘one sizefits all approach’ rather thaninvesting in lot’s of differentproducts.

We will all want to look like Far-rah Fawcett Major did in the1970s when she was in the US TVshow Charlie's Angels - get thosecurling tongs out, buy yourself abright orange maxi dress andsome cork wedge shoes and youare good to go for summer 2011!

Because of the lack of light I don'tmake a lot of colorful looks. I likesmokey eyes whenever it's possi-ble or very nude with darker lip-stick at the moment. For holidayit has to be red glitter polish - I usePOPBeauty "Xmas" but it's verysimilar to CHINA GLAZE RubyPumps. I am glad that gold eye-shadows are so popular now - Iwill definitely use it this yearagain.

I think I have never received anycosmetics. And I am happy aboutit.

What holiday makeup collection

did you like the best? What arethe stand outs and must-haves inthis years collections in youropinion?

To be completely honest, I feltvery uninspired by the makeupcollections so far this year as awhole. However, there have beena few must have items in myopinion. First and foremost, thisseason we saw Urban DecaysNaked Palette, which to me is ab-solutly essential and if I had onlyone palette to use for the rest ofmy life...this would be it! I also amloving the new gold eyeshadowfrom NARS, Estrusque. Lastly, Iam loving is the Illamasqua fourpalette liquid metal palette, veryversatile.


In the winter I like to wear goldsand bronzes to warm up my com-plexion. I also love a bright redlipstick, my current favorite isNARS Heat Wave.


Hm...this is a hard one. I think myfavorite beauty related gift areSpa Days! Who doesn't love a SpaTreatment?

I really liked the imagery ofUrban Decay Holiday 2010collection with their jewel-colored eyes and cat-eyeshaped looks. I got totallysucked in and bought their24/7 Jackpot set to try theirfamous Glide-on eyelinersand so far, I'm absolutelyloving them! On the otherhand, I was completely dis-appointed by MAC's offer-ings this season. For mynails, I enjoy wearing twoChina Glaze polishes fromthe 'Tis the Season to beNaughty and Nice' collec-tion: a funky pinkish gliitercalled 'Mrs. Santa' and aburgundy black 'Naughtyand Nice'.

What kind of colour andshades of makeup do youlike to wear in winter? Whatabout your holiday look, doyou have any ideas already?

I'll be very boring and pre-dictable and say deeper,more berry-toned hues forlips and cheeks and greysand purples for the eyes,which work very well withmy pale complexion anddark brown irises. I'm alsopartial to a bit more shineand sparkle than usual, es-pecially on the lids. My ideafor a holiday look involvessome neutral brown shadesfor the eyes with a touch ofgold shimmer above thepupil and a darker, juicy lip,possibly involving NYX lip-gloss in 'Garnet'. Plus somebeautiful glittery nails!

What was the best beautyrelated present you ever re-ceived?

This is a very difficult ques-tion! I'm often given per-fumes by my husband, but Iguess the most memorablebeauty-related present I re-ceived was from my mumone Christmas when I wasmaybe 15. She (ekhm,Santa, I mean!) got me myfirst bottle of liquid founda-tion by Yves Rocher and atrio of bronzy eyeshadows.While the foundation was-n't unfortunately the bestshade, I loved the eyeshad-ows to pieces and usedthem at every opportunity.I still have them somewherein the back of my make-updrawer!

What holiday makeup col-lection did you like thebest? What are the standouts and must-haves in thisyears collections in youropinion?

To be honest, none of theholiday collections out thisyear have wowed me. I loveClarins Barocco for thepackaging, it's beautiful andluxurious. Chanel's collec-tion was also nice, espe-cially the blush. But to me,this year it's all about theholiday sets. Lots of brandshave come out with Christ-mas kits that allow you totry their most popular prod-ucts at a bargain price. My

favourite sets are from the UrbanDecay and Benefit.


I usually wear colorful shades(my favourites are greens andpurples) all year round regardlessof the season. But for this year'sholiday look I was thinking to usegold eyeshadows on the eyes,maybe mixing them with greenand white which are very festiveshades. I'd pair that with pink lipsand a peachy pink blush withgold shimmers like Sleek RoseGold or Milani Luminous.


That's a hard question! Probablysome Pupa palette. When I was ateenager, my mum would buyme one each Christmas. They arethe perfect gift for a teenager be-cause they contain everything agirl could need to create prettylooks (eyeshadows, blushes, lip-sticks/glosses...) and the packag-ing is just too cute!

I like Too Faced palettes, I thinkthey're lovely and so usable!When it comes to 'must haves' Imust admit that I don't think any-

thing is 'must have' from holidaycollections. There are so manylovely stuff but nothing is *really*stunning. And some colors are re-peating too much which also theother reason I don't think here areany special must haves.

To be completely honest, I feltvery uninspired by the makeupcollections so far this year as awhole. However, there have beena few must have items in myopinion. First and foremost, thisseason we saw Urban DecaysNaked Palette, which to me is ab-solutly essential and if I had onlyone palette to use for the rest ofmy life...this would be it! I also amloving the new gold eyeshadowfrom NARS, Estrusque. Lastly, Iam loving is the Illamasqua fourpalette liquid metal palette, veryversatile.

On the otherhand, I was completely dis-appointed by MAC's offer-ings this season. I'll be very boring and pre-dictable and say deeper,more berry-toned hues forlips and cheeks and greysand purples for the eyes,which work very well withmy pale complexion anddark brown irises. I'm alsopartial to a bit more shineand sparkle than usual, es-pecially on the lids. My ideafor a holiday look involvessome neutral brown shadesfor the eyes with a touch ofgold shimmer above thepupil and a darker, juicy lip,possibly involving NYX lip-gloss in 'Garnet'. This is a very difficult ques-tion! I'm often given per-fumes by my husband, but Iguess the most memorablebeauty-related present I re-ceived was from my mumone Christmas when I wasmaybe 15. To be honest, none of theholiday collections out thisyear have wowed me. I loveClarins Barocco for thepackaging, it's beautiful andluxurious. Chanel's collec-tion was also nice, espe-cially the blush. But to me,this year it's all about theholiday sets. Lots of brandshave come out with Christ-mas kits that allow you totry their most popular prod-ucts at a bargain price. My

favourite sets are from the UrbanDecay and Benefit.


I usually wear colorful shades(my favourites are greens andpurples) all year round regardlessof the season. But for this year'sholiday look I was thinking to usegold eyeshadows on the eyes,maybe mixing them with greenand white which are very festiveshades. I'd pair that with pink lipsand a peachy pink blush withgold shimmers like Sleek RoseGold or Milani Luminous.


That's a hard question! Probablysome Pupa palette. When I was ateenager, my mum would buyme one each Christmas. Onthe other hand, Imay go for theneutrals withsome shimmer(may be palegold) for the eyesand a nude lipcolor.

I think my holidaylook would be a softsmokey grey look forthe eyes to go with a deepred lipstick.
