Programme TypeThe Make-up Artist programme is a Provider Programme. INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body.
Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field.
Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate).

Make-up Artist Certificate
Career OpportunitiesWhether youre already in the beauty industry or this is your fi rst introduction to the exciting world of cosmetics, the INTEC Make-up Artist Certifi cate will open many doors for you. By the end of the course, you will have compiled a portfolio of your work, which will showcase your talent a valuable tool when promoting yourself.
Once youve gained your skills as a make-up artist, you have all sorts of options:
You could start your own home-based business, helping photographers and fi lm or television crews to prepare models and actors for their shoots.
Alternatively, you could apply for a position as a beauty consultant for an international make-up house, or offer your services to beauty salons in your area, specialising in make-up application for every possible occasion.
Course Content You will start with a brief look at the purpose and history of make-up, before learning how to use the appropriate tools to apply the correct colours and tones for different people and occasions.
The course includes the following topics:
Purpose of make-up application Brief history of make-up Theory of colour and lighting and their importance and effects in make-up application
Tools required for make-up application Hygiene and maintenance of tools Make-up products Skin types Face and eye shapes Setting up a workstation Consultations Applying day, evening, bridal and photographic make-up Promoting make-up services
Entrance RequirementsWe strongly recommend that you have English language skills in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10 (Std. 8).
Course DurationYou should be able to complete this course within 6 to 12 months.
Assessment and AwardAfter successfully completing the 3 formative assessments, youwill be awarded an INTEC Certifi cate in Make-up Artist.
Consider combining your Make-up studies with some of the other beauty courses offered by INTEC College and extend your range of skills. Here are some suggestions:
You could add Beauty Salon Management to your course and, before you know it, you could be managing your very own salon.
