OUR MISSION

There is an excess of resources (Money, Food, Clothes, Talent , Exposure, Comforts!!!!) in one world and extreme dearth in another.

Make Ourselves Matterstrives to get these two worlds connected , so that they share and finally…

They Matter

Page 3: Make Ourselves Matter

OUR CURRENT PROJECTS-The Mobile Clinic for Homeless.

Illness , (Mental or Physical ) is a primary cause for homelessness as the ill are secluded by their families

Page 4: Make Ourselves Matter

Loads and loads of migrants end up homeless in Delhi each month.

Page 5: Make Ourselves Matter

With no identity in this huge city, if disease also plagues them, conditions become unbearable.

Page 6: Make Ourselves Matter

The mobile clinic conducted by Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan (AAA) at Jama Masjid offers a ray of hope to its registered 2700 homeless patients.

Page 7: Make Ourselves Matter

With the hostile attitude of our govt. hospitals’ the homeless are bound to neglect the illness.Getting treatment in the govt. hospitals means they need to let go of a days’ wage which was supposed to feed them at night.

Page 8: Make Ourselves Matter

Which is why AAA runs this mobile clinic in the night.

Page 9: Make Ourselves Matter

Forced treatment of severely mentally ill requires orders from a magistrate which takes minimum of 3 daysAAA facilitates the presence of a Magistrate at the Mobile Clinic along with a general physician, a psychiatrist and the 3 day task is initiated and accomplished in half an hour

Page 10: Make Ourselves Matter

The severely ill are taken to the night shelters AAA runs, for nutritious diet and further treatment . AAA volunteers help in re-establishing their health and narcotic de-addiction.

Page 11: Make Ourselves Matter

When MOM spent a week with AAA, the stories of several homeless who had been cured and reestablished in their families were heart rendering.

Page 12: Make Ourselves Matter

But this noble concept is fading away fast due to lack of funds as only 1 out of the three clinics that originally started now remains.Only Rs. 20,000 is required for running the clinic (excluding the staff salaries) for a month and with your aid such an effective process can be reborn at several places in Delhi.

Crafts for the Differently Abled.

Disability is an obstacle only if it stops the person from engaging in activities that they otherwise would love to (and are capable of!!!) engaging in.

Page 14: Make Ourselves Matter

Jan Madhyam works to institutionalize the disabled from poor families.

Page 15: Make Ourselves Matter

They help families to attain proper documents to enable disability pensions from the govt. and helps them get admission in govt. schools

Page 16: Make Ourselves Matter

Jan Madhyam’s Aya Nagar centre is a place these kids learn those little things that help them survive in our world.

Page 17: Make Ourselves Matter

Their dedicated teachers teach them life skills by using different media like music, painting, puppets. They help them discover their true identity in the language they understand.

Page 18: Make Ourselves Matter

Little things like how to behave outside, sex education for their changing bodies, how to comb, how to button..are all taught with puppets, pictorial representations.

Page 19: Make Ourselves Matter

They indulge in crafts training which imbibes self esteem and increased initiative to make social contacts.

It has additional therapeutic advantages on their deformed body.

Page 20: Make Ourselves Matter

With the gardening, the computer education, the music class and the masala production, Jan Madhyam creates an inclusive environment that allows the able and the disabled to work and play together.

Page 21: Make Ourselves Matter

With the new “Apni Dukan” that has opened in the centre they require a professional workshop and a range of materials.

The students at Jan Madhyam need just RS. 20,000 to ensure a wider range of products for the Dukan. So they can make it a success and finally learn how to survive in this world.

The Sewing Machines

Due to the rapid beautification in Delhi for the CWG. Slums were vacated and the slum dwellers “relocated” at JJ Colony (Ghewra) in hostile living conditions.

To make things worse, they incured increased monthly expenditure on healthcare, transport and rent after the forced evictions

Page 23: Make Ourselves Matter

For a community that has been moved an average from 5km from their workplace to 40km opportunities for livelihood seem bleak

Due to forced eviction these starving people were left homeless too.

Page 24: Make Ourselves Matter

And these people are no strangers. They were our very own Aya “didi” and Driver “bhaiya”.

Page 25: Make Ourselves Matter

With depleting opportunities for survival, the women in JJ Colony empowered by SPID started getting skilled in stitching.

Page 26: Make Ourselves Matter

This silai workshop initiated with just two females but when these females picked up small stitching projects, the others realized the potential of the skill.

Page 27: Make Ourselves Matter

These females come to the workshop at 9 AM and leave at 1. The workshop does not pay.

But they still come…just to learn the skill…just to get empowered.

Page 28: Make Ourselves Matter
Page 29: Make Ourselves Matter

They lost their homes and jobs now that they are trying again, it is our responsibility to empower them.

Page 30: Make Ourselves Matter

A sewing machine costs Rs 3000. With your aid we can provide them with Rs 18000 …for six of them.
