An interview with...

piers leePiers Lee is a Worcestershire born tattooist living and working in Birmingham. part of Part

Street Tattooist based in Digbeth, At the age of 22 he’s making a name for himself within the industry with 4 years experience, Piers managed to give some of his time to us at Broad magazine to answer some of our questions so here’s how you could get to know the man and his work a whole lot better.

How did you get into tattooing?Apprenticeship, its the only way to get into it, just begged and begged them.

Favourite tattoo of your own?My hands or my neck.

Favorite place to go out?Very rarely, Temple Street

Any words of advice before getting a tattoo?Avoid any tattoo parlours with ‘ink’ in the name and do your research, no two tattoo artists are the same.

Who was brave enough to let you practice on them?No one, I practiced on myself, most the stuff on my legs is shit. Where’s the best place to eat when your hungover?Broadly Street Cafe, run by two old ladies, theres probably hairs and teeth in the food but it all adds to the love!

Most common tattoo in Birmingham?Text, everywhere its text.

What would you do if you weren’t a tattooist? Couldn’t be anything else, maybe an astronaut.

If you had to rinse a million pound in 24 hours what would you spend it on?I’d open my own shop in town, have all my mates work there with me with loads of machines and I’d buy two kittens.

If you had to throw one celebrity in a pit of lions who would it be?Cheryl Cole

What’s your favourite band?Biffy Clyro, before they got famous.

Favourite film as a kid? The fox and the hound.

Is there any downsides to your job?I have pitch deafness in one ear from the noise.

This issue of Broad I will be enlightening you on the latest fashion for the cold

months of October, November and of course, December. Continue reading to find out how to stay warm and look good this winter.

As you may of seen throughout the course of this year, Beanie hats have definitely come back in fashion. Plain colours with a knitted pattern can add the final touch to an outfit. In contrast, patterns can also add interest. Reasonably priced wool beanie hats can be found in Topman, H&M and River Island.

A wooly sweater will be a nice classy addition to you wardrobe. Coming in a variety of colours and patterns it is easy to find one that suits you. They can be worn as a casual piece of clothing or with something more formal but most of all it will keep you warm. Be warned readers, due to the nature of the material they will begin to bobble a couple of months after purchasing so wear sparingly.

To protect you from the elements a good coat is vital to any outdoors outfit. A double breasted coat will accompany t-shirts, polos, shirts and sweaters nicely giving a smart/casual aesthetic. Although rather expensive, nice double breasted jackets can be found in Zara starting at £80.

For trousers, slim fit is the way. It gives the illustion you have

longer legs and taller frame. Weather demin or chinos, any slim fit jean will compliment your outfit. You can adjust the look by simply rolling up the bottom. The combintation of long white socks

and rolled up trousers can also be a desired look. You can purchase slim fit jeans and chinos from Topman on sale now from £15.

You can never have enough shoes when it comes to footwear. To compliment the rolled trousers and white socks a pair of New Balance. Only recently coming in fashion as an item you wear day to day, they are affordable in the range of £35-£50. Converse are an obvious classic that everyone should own at least one pair of. In the same price bracket Vans are another shoe which are afford,

comfortable, durable and go with a lot of different outfits. New to the scene are Nike Blazers. Comprised of mainly suede these a shoe that are high maintance. Coming in both low top and high top and a variety of pastel colours they have a vintage old school look.
